Inner monologue blends with dialogue to tell this story about the struggles of overcoming addiction, including how it affects relationships and mental health. The honest portrayal of drug addiction, complicated relationships, and recovery is hopeful even when the main character is in a dark place. The main character's narrative voice, both in the acting and the writing, is energetic and charismatic.
Small VictoriesThank you for taking the time to review our podcast. I´m glad you enjoyed it!
What strikes me about this show is its honesty. People are complicated, none more so than Marisol, and so while she does disappointing and hurtful things, that's not all she is. There's a lot of humor in this story, energy and youth and frankness about drugs, sex, struggle, and mental health. If Marisol disappoints us, it's because it's so easy to like her and we want her to be better. The voice acting is superb, especially Mo McKynzie whose interpretation of Marisol is utterly believable and charismatic.
a very engaging play about the ups and downs of a recently recovered drug addict trying to start a new lease on life. It is funny and poignant
An up-close and raw look at addiction, coping, and surviving. And by "raw", I mean that's how it leaves your nerves feeling sometimes. Other times, you're laughing out loud. Kinda like life, yeah? It's a powerful tale.
I don’t know that I’ve ever been hooked by a podcast or a character as quickly as I have with Marisol and Small Victories. Anyone who has ever struggled with addiction will be able to feel the hopeful truth of Marisol’s words, expertly laced with brilliant and biting subtext. Small Victories knows when to be blunt and when to be cutting, and the dialogue is always sharp and on point. The Pilot episode made me laugh out loud at 7am, clap to myself in an empty living room and instantly care about the journey the protagonist was about to endure. Give the first episode a listen and I guarantee you’ll be hooked.
