This week, author Lili Wilkinson joins us to discuss Idina Menzel‘s Melbourne concert. We muse on the awesomeness of conductor Vanessa Scammell (is she a Terminator?) and talk about why Wicked means so much to girls. Tyson relates his experiences watching the ‘risky’ Melbourne Theatre Company production of The Crucible.

Additional notes:
Wicked book writer Winnie Holzman talks about Idina’s ‘raw’ performance.
Idina sings Defying Gravity at Barefoot at the Symphony, and sings Poker Face and talks about the randomness of performing it on Glee.
Alison Croggon reviews The Crucible.
Abigail’s Age Has Been Raised‘ – a piece from Hoyden About Town about the portrayal of teenage sexuality in The Crucible.

Note: We’ve since had a good think about what accent the characters in The Crucible actually would have spoken in, in 1690s Salem, Mass. The internet suggests various things including Dorset, Irish and general northern English, but no one really seems to know for sure. We are interested to hear peoples’ thoughts and feelpinions on this issue.
