things. JOHN burrows said, I go

0:30

to nature to be sooth, healed

0:30

and put my senses in order.

0:35

After the last few months, I

0:35

couldn't agree more. Welcome to

0:39

the strive seek buying podcast.

0:39

I'm your host chance Whitmer. In

0:43

celebration of Episode 51, I'm

0:43

trying something a little bit

0:47

new today. So it's the first

0:47

step in an experiment. I've been

0:52

wanting to take the podcast a

0:52

little more mobile. So at the

0:57

suggestion of friend of the

0:57

show, Mike, I picked up a new

1:00

road mic for my phone. So my

1:00

adventuring has a new companion.

1:06

Which Today we are going to work

1:06

through for multiple purposes.

1:11

To see if my idea works in the

1:11

great outdoors. And to finally

1:17

get back into the mountains

1:17

before I lose my ever loving

1:20

mind. Now let's get started.

1:25

Welcome to the strife see crime

1:25

podcast. I'm chance Whitmore.

1:29

Hey, try a little experiment

1:29

today guys. out on a little road

1:34

trip up in the mountains, picked

1:34

up a Rode mic to see if I could

1:40

bring back some of the sounds

1:40

with me. family's off on there a

1:45

little hike, I'm kind of off on

1:45

mine. And God, I can't begin to

1:51

describe how much I needed this.

1:51

I gotta be in the trees. I'm in

1:56

the sun. I listen to the bugs. I

1:56

can feel my shoulders

2:03

unknotting. As I say this. This

2:03

is very much an unplanned jaunt.

2:12

Instead of figuring out where

2:12

we're going, what we're doing,

2:18

we got in the car and just

2:18

started driving, change

2:21

directions once and have ended

2:21

up about three miles beyond the

2:26

campground out near Idaho City.

2:26

Idaho City, for those of you who

2:31

do not know, is a small town.

2:31

Old gold mining town, I think of

2:39

it is an end of the road town

2:39

where people go when they don't

2:42

necessarily want to be found.

2:42

And it's a tremendous gateway

2:46

into the the mountains in many,

2:46

many directions. So it's

2:53

gorgeous up here. And it's more

2:53

than worth your time to see.

2:58

Right now I'm staring at Pine

2:58

trees all around. And just

3:02

generally, like I said,

3:02

relaxing. More than anything

3:10

today, I'm trying to seek peace.

3:10

Because let's be honest, if you

3:17

don't do that, from time to

3:17

time, excuse the dog, you get

3:23

wound up so tight in your head

3:23

and in your guts that you don't

3:27

even recognize your own goals

3:27

anymore. And honestly, I've been

3:35

on the edge of it for about two

3:35

months. And I've been trying to

3:39

get to the hills for about two

3:39

months. So this is a little bit

3:44

of salvation right now. So one

3:44

of the hikes that Amy and I are

3:50

going to hit this summer without

3:50

the kids involves a 25% grade

3:57

for over a mile. We found

3:57

something on this outing that

4:05

has the right grade, nowhere

4:05

near the length. And admittedly

4:11

I'm still out of shape,

4:11

completely swinging to try and

4:15

see exactly how out of breath

4:15

we're going to be in two to

4:22

three minutes. Back in a second.

4:22

Not a hard hike. But I will tell

4:28

you I was 62 feet 62. Yeah, steps.

4:36

It's enough to give you get your

4:36

heart pounding just a little bit

4:39

when you haven't been doing anything so and Jeff says that that may not

4:41

be actually 25% grade. That

4:46

might that other hike might be a

4:46

little out of our range. I

4:50

disagree. Hey, we have two

4:50

months to be ready. But we got

4:54

to get ready. For me, hitting the hills is

4:57

cathartic It is my best way to

5:01

begin to reset and restore

5:01

myself after a long year, or a

5:07

tough week, or anything else

5:07

that might have me ground down a

5:11

little bit. I guess the point

5:11

comes down to this experiment

5:17

was a short adventure. It is

5:17

also a return to a time not

5:22

focused on work, or survival

5:22

stress. I've often talked about

5:29

challenging yourself, making

5:29

yourself better. And I strongly

5:33

believe in. I also understand

5:33

that if you're too focused on

5:39

the six inches in front of your

5:39

face, which is to say, the

5:43

problems you're facing the small

5:43

things that always seem to

5:47

distract or need your attention,

5:47

stress from other sources. They

5:54

all impede your vision that keep

5:54

your blinders on. And because of

5:58

that, you lose the ability to

5:58

see the future for what it can

6:03

be the ability to see your way

6:03

forward. You have to find your

6:09

release from the grind to be

6:09

able to see your own brilliant

6:12

future. For me, it's the

6:12

mountains. It's moments of peace

6:18

alone with family. With friends,

6:18

we're alone. What is it for you?

6:26

Let me know. Shout outs. I know

6:26

I mentioned this at the opening

6:31

but a huge shout out to Mike

6:31

dancy for a suggestion of using

6:34

the Rode mic. For the getting

6:34

back to nature part of the

6:39

podcast. Like couldn't have

6:39

happened without you. If you

6:44

love computers and tech support,

6:44

check out Mike's YouTube

6:48

channel. worth mentioning today

6:48

is worth mentioning comes from

6:52

an article by Elise Stanley on

6:52

Gizmodo. The age of autonomous

6:56

killer robots may already be

6:56

here. So this has been a popular

7:01

topic in science fiction for

7:01

decades, possibly, most famously

7:06

with James Cameron's Terminator

7:06

series, but it's been a real

7:10

world concern since the

7:10

invention of the first drone. In

7:14

this case, the story discusses

7:14

how it is believed that the

7:17

Libyan government used the cargo

7:17

to attack quadric koppert copter

7:23

say that fast three times, to

7:23

hunt down opposition forces

7:28

autonomously as to what this

7:28

means. They were retreating. And

7:34

the drones were attacking

7:34

Kamikaze style autonomously. The

7:41

Turkish company that builds

7:41

these say that it can be flown

7:44

or led to operate autonomously

7:44

and can attack in single or

7:49

swarm autonomously the most

7:49

basic terms It is believed that

7:55

for the first time in human

7:55

history, artificial intelligence

7:59

was used to hunt and kill human

7:59

beads. Now, for me, this is a

8:04

frightening concern for the

8:04

future. And for that reason

8:08

alone, it's worth checking out.

8:08

I posted this article on the

8:12

8:12

Facebook. That's it for this

8:16

week's edition of stripes.
