The National's Sleep Well Beast
The National are back with a brand new record called Sleep Well Beast and we are back to talk about it! Richard is joined by special co-host (and his new wife!) Jess to talk about their shared love for the National and their first impressions of their new electronic-focused album. A record about marriage strife dissected by newly weds?! Yep! Let's dive into this, National fans! Do you love Sleep Well Beast? Are you upset that we said some sorta disparaging things about High Violet? Reach out to us on Twitter/Instagram at @surfacenoisepod or send us an email at richard@surfacenoisepod.com and let us know.
Feels Like New Weezer #2
A brand new Weezer single has just hit the internet so it's time once again for the Surface Noise sub-series Feels Like New Weezer! We welcome comedian and our very own Weezer commentator Matt Harbert back for a discussion on the band's new single 'Mexican Fender' and the news of their upcoming album Pacific Daydream. Is this single a rebound from 'Feels Like Summer'? Or is it a further de-evolution back into Hurley/Raditude territory? Listen and hear our hot takes! We also very briefly touch on the new Brand New album leak.
Rebekka Johnson from GLOW
Today's guest is actor/comedian Rebekka Johnson from the Netflix series GLOW! and comedy group the Apple Sisters. Dan, Richard and Rebekka talk about the excellent use of '80s songs on the show and how music has played a big part in her comedy career. Dan and Richard also share their musical picks of the month! Did you love GLOW too? What did you think about the music on the show? Reach out to us on Twitter/Instagram at @surfacenoisepod (Richard) and @yckmd_ (Dan) or send us an email at richard@surfacenoisepod.com and let us know.
Best of 2017 So Far + Lauren from The Grey Estates
Dan and Richard share their favorite albums of 2017 (so far) and have a lovely chat with music writer Lauren Rearick. Lauren has had her work published in the Huffington Post, USA Today, and CNN Opinion and she runs The Grey Estates, a blog that highlights unique voices in indie rock and pop. If you love silly award categories and sincere conversations about indie music, you'll enjoy today's show. Are you a reader of the Grey Estates? Do you have your own list of favorite albums of 2017? Reach out to us on Twitter/Instagram at @surfacenoisepod (Richard) and @yckmd_ (Dan) or send us an email at richard@surfacenoisepod.com and let us know.
The National's Matt Berninger + Baby Dayliner
10 years after quitting the music business, Brooklyn pop artist Baby Dayliner is finally ready to come back. With a new EP set for release in July, Baby Dayliner (aka Ethan Marunas) joins Surface Noise to talk about why he left the biz, the inner pull that brought him back, and how he turned online dating misadventures into dope music. Before we hear from Baby D, we thought it was only right to first speak with one of his biggest fans: The National's Matt Berninger. Matt joins us to discuss how Baby Dayliner's unique live shows shaped his experience in the now legendary mid-2000s Brooklyn music scene that spawned bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol and the Strokes. It's rare to hear artists talk so affectionately about other artists, so we are extra excited to share this with you. Are you a long time Baby D fan? Did you become one after hearing this interview? Reach out to us on Twitter/Instagram at @surfacenoisepod (Richard) and @yckmd_ (Dan) or send us an email at richard@surfacenoisepod.com and let us know.

Feels Like New Weezer with Matt Harbert
IS BAD WEEZER BACK?! We've called an emergency podcast to unpack and make sense of Weezer's brand new electro-pop single 'Feels Like Summer' which made its polarizing world-wide debut on Thursday. With the help of guest comedian and casual Weezer fan Matt Harbert (Top Story Weekly), we dissect the new single and get to the bottom of how Rivers Cuomo and friends became the flawed, inconsistent, occasionally awesome band that they are. What do you think about the new single 'Feels Like Summer'? Let us know on Instagram or Twitter (@surfacenoisepod) or email us at richard@surfacenoisepod.com.
