In 1909, Maurice Hall (played by James Wilby) attends Cambridge university, where he befriends Clive Durham (played by Hugh Grant). The two embark on an intense but paranoid affair. Homosexuality is illegal in British Edwardian society so the two men must now decide to reject their true sexual identities or risk plunging their families into disgrace and themselves into prison….
