All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights," this is the first statement of Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Since this declaration's adoption in 1948, political rights have been foregrounded. Now the time has come for humankind to give dignity sustainable attention. Human rights are embedded in dignity, but dignity has a larger humanizing scope than rights. Dignity entails justice and peace, and it manifests as unity in diversity and supports an ethics of care.

Evelin Lindner's work focuses on human dignity and humiliation. She is the Founding President of Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies (HumanDHS), a global transdisciplinary fellowship of concerned academics and practitioners who wish to promote dignity and transcend humiliation. She is a Co-founder of the World Dignity University initiative.   She has a dual education as a Medical Doctor and a Psychologist and carries two PhDs (Dr. med. and Dr. psychol.). She teaches globally. She is a research fellow at the University of Oslo, Norway, is affiliated, among others, with Columbia University in New York City (with the Advanced Consortium on Cooperation, Conflict, and Complexity, AC4), and with the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in Paris.
