20 questions with Damon Moschetto

1. What does high performance mean to you?

It means something different for everyone; but for me, it starts with the physical. And if you can master something in the physical, which does not have to be anything crazy—like run a marathon or do a fitness show. It could be as simple as being consistent with your workout. When you master the physical, that’s the first step and everything seems to fall into place.

2. Where, along the lines in your journey, did you figure out that there’s a turning point for your high performance?

I’ve had a few. It started when I was in college. I was a college baseball player, and I got hurt, and I couldn’t play anymore.  I wasn’t in college to go to school; I was there to play baseball. From there, I became really depressed. And I got into fitness and found my passion, and later on, I felt that it wasn’t what I wanted to do actually. That I wasn’t performing at a high level. And then I came up with my philosophy: that I gotta master the physical aspect—not that I was in a bad shape; it just wasn’t where I wanted to be

3. What is your high-performance mantra that keeps you going?

I expand in abundance, success, and love every day around me and inspire everyone around me to do the same

4. Any productivity tricks or tips that we could use?

For me, it’s planning my day. The night before, I make sure to take 5 minutes the day before or first thing in the morning.

5. How do you keep your energy at a super high level?

Three simple things: stay hydrated, go for a walk/get moving, write down 3 things you’re grateful for. Even five minutes of walking in the morning—it goes back to the physical thing. You don’t have to do a full workout, just move, keep moving and that will keep the energy coming

6. What is something you can’t live without in your fitness/wellness routine?

Sleep. It’s rest. Make sure that I’m recuperated. I just wanna function as awesomely as you can. Get between 6-7 hours of sleep. If I wanna be at my best, I need to have rest

7. What motivates you to say at such a high level?

When you raise your standards, it just becomes important to you. For what I do, I certainly don’t wanna be a hypocrite. It’s also the constant improvement.

8. We fall off the horse sometimes. What do you do get back on?

The first thing – be honest about it. Sometimes, when people fall off the wagon, they try to justify or rationalize their actions. That’s not being honest. It’s okay to admit that you’re messing it up.

In exercise, the farther you get away from it, the harder it is to start back at it.

9. Courage is a huge part of the recipe in high performance. How do you deal with fear & get fired up to take massive action?

Fear is everywhere; it happens all the time. For me, you gotta take action. If you’re stuck, that’s usually a sign of fear. You’re afraid to take action. For me, all I do is just take the thing, even how tiny it is, and I’ll just do it. And that will create momentum, and I just keep going towards where I need to go. To get over fear, you just have to take action

10. What is your best tip for remembering what works?

The simple thing is actually to look back at my success. When I look back, feel it for a minute, and ask myself “what was I doing at the point?” “What made me successful?” And usually, you answer and move forward

11. Can you give us one tip to sustain high performance long term?

There’s different levels in high performance, so there’s gonna be ebbs and flows for sure. But for me, it’s simply moving every day, and people mix that up with working out. I move daily because I know that if I keep moving, that’s gonna keep me going in the right direction no matter what.

12. How do you find clarity when you’re overwhelmed?

I meditate. I mix it up a little bit. I like guided meditations, chakra meditations, simple meditations, relaxation ones. It depends.

13. What do you use to connect your source or inner wisdom?

That would be meditation and walking for me.

14. As entrepreneurs, we must call constantly on our creativity to do so many things every day. When you need to be creative and you’re limited on time, what do you do to bring it about fast/quickly?

I go off school and write a list. I read a lot of blogs and newsletter. I just start writing topics, and then something will come to me. I get it rolling and usually that works all the time.

15. How do you help others stay motivated? What are a couple of tricks and tactics you use on your coaching clients?

Probably the biggest thing is I’ve listened. I truly listen. Usually, that is the best way for me to direct them. It’s not me. It’s having them coming to their own conclusion as to why they’re not getting the result they need.

I’ll call them on their BS. Once you get people to be honest to themselves, it’s not that complicated.

I listen and truly allow them to discover what they need to do themselves.

16. What is your unburden and uplevel?

Unburden: Just get rid of processed crap.

Uplevel: To get around better people, to raise your standards. Your circle of influence. That is key.

17. A favorite book or website or product that helps you with your high performance edge?

Essentialism: The Discipline Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeow

18. What is a movement or change you would like to see in the world?

I would like to see people concerned with their health and wellness because right now, it seems widely ignored

19. Can you share with us one the best pieces of advice or your a-ha moments in your podcasting journey?

From the podcast: it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Just being consistent.

For the most part, 99% you get something cool out of it. A guest of mine, who is a sport psychologist, taught me a lot of things, including how the top athletes in the world actually perform. And it’s no different than what any of us can do. That was one of the better podcasts I have had

20. What your three favorite interviews are on your show?
