Have you ever wanted to get paid to do something you really love? How about traveling? My guest this week is doing just that. Chris Christensen joined me this past week to talk about his podcast the Amateur Traveler.
The Amateur Traveler is a travel show that focuses primarily on travel destinations and the best places to travel to. It covers everything from knowing what to put on your Chicago dog when you go to the Windy City to swimming with whales in Tonga.
Chris launched his first podcast episode back in 2005 and now produces a weekly audio podcast, a video podcast and a blog with quite a lot of travel photography.
His audio was downloaded around 4,000 times a day last year or over a million times total. And while Chris isn’t raking in a fortune from his show, he is generating passive income through sponsorships, and get’s many of his trips completely paid for!
The show won a Lowell Thomas travel journalism award this year and also earned Chris a SMITTY award from Travel+Leisure magazine as the “best independent travel journalist / blogger”.
Chris also is part of another show – “This Week in Travel” with Gary Arndt and Jen Leo. This Week in Travel has won three North America Travel Journalism awards.
On this episode, Chris will be sharing some great advice for anyone who wants to start a podcast, build a massive audience and create income from it through show sponsors.
