Laura Pennington is an inner city teacher turned freelance writer. She has been working for herself full-time since 2013 and now teaches others how to do the same.

Laura had the pleasure to teach in the inner city. To put things in perspective the school district where she taught is where "The Wire" is based at. The position placed extra stress on Laura due to things like not every student having a desk to sit at or a book to learn from. Combine this with starting her day at 5 am and often working on lesson plans until midnight, ultimately took its toll on Laura.

When she finally took a break from teaching for 1 week it made her realize she couldn't go back to the environment, thusly she resigned from her position.

Thankfully when she left her position, a company that she worked for in the past wanted her back. She spent the next year working for them performing freelance writing. During this time she started focusing on teaching others how to do freelance writing. Within 3 months of beginning this endeavor, she was earning more teaching others how to write than actually writing.

In the freelance writing industry, there is more than enough work to go around. The key to success is how you differentiate yourself from the masses. Another way to stand out in a crowded market is to pick a niche and own it. When people know who you are within a particular niche, it is easier to attract clients as they can see the work you have done for others in their industry.

One of the things that helped accelerate her business was getting featured in business insider. To achieve this she simply pitched the editor after doing her research. Anyone can accomplish the task, it's simply a matter of stepping up and asking for it.

The One Thing that anyone can do in their business is to put their best foot forward. Showcase your best work to attract the clients you desire.
