John Koufos has had a wild ride: rising star criminal defense lawyer, incarcerated in Bayside State Prison for 17 months, and now advisor to Presidents and Governors on Access to Justice initiatives, inmate re-entry, and a ton of Bi-partisan policy initiatives. He is the National Director of Right on Crime - a think tank that utilizes unique approaches to facilitate inmate re-entry to the community. Right on Crime focuses on common sense initiatives like identification, driver's licenses, wiping out small fines, and leaving a pathway to “Safe Streets.”
When John was released from Bayside State Prison, he connected with former Gov. James McGreevy and his prison ministry initiative. Before long he was the leader of the New Jersey Re-entry Corporation (NJRC) and now travels the country talking common sense reform and access to justice.
