What a mess of a story. While TV shows can handle flitting between different scenes, settings, timelines and sub-plots, the lack of visuals make such a structure too chaotic and disorientating for audio. One minute you're listening to one female voice, the next you're listening to another, and you've got no idea that at some point the focus between different people and places. Episodes finish with the attention on one person and then the next starts on someone else with no heads up it isn't picking up from where it left off. Voices and personalities aren't distinctive enough either, which doesn't help.Possibly the most interesting episode of S1 is the finale, which is pretty much completely disconnected from the rest of the series. Yes, it does explain the origins of the curse, but ending a season with brand new characters in a brand new era is a bizarre choice. The whole swarm of mysterious characters like Ezekiel, Robbie and Artie have no clear motive and their behaviour, appearances and abilities aren't explained clearly enough. There's mystery and then there's convoluted nonsense.Burned Photo is a mess of a story, saved only from the minimum one star by QCode's typically-high production value (sound effects are superb as always). I cannot possibly recommend this show unless you're quite happy to spend several hours not really knowing what's going on and ending a season with no conclusions whatsoever.
No jumpscares, or cheap scares, just a really scary and well made podcast.Watch it if you like sleeping with your eyes openNow I better go change my pants.
Excellent supernatural mystery. Well written and acted.
Horror fiction that starts off quite nicely but quickly suffers from its worst problem, poor writing: it constantly tells instead of showing, awhich kills a scripted podcast with a full cast, plus it suffers connecting the different stories across time that give us the plot's bigger picture. Sound design is fantastic and creates a chilling atmosphere. Voice acting is really good and, with the SFX, saves the day for the Burned Photo. The story could have been great, it's a good effort, but the opportunity is wasted.
Oh so disappointing... it started so well and then gor lost telling a completely different story... Uff!
This one starts out like a typical horror podcast, but ends up adding a lot of depth through layers of flashbacks.
Horror that's not too creepy. So far I'm slightly confused by what's going on, but will keep listening.
Season 2 was a big whole mess, like a completely different podcast from season 1. It's like you could tell they came up with it on the fly.
Perfectly cromulent
Another great QCODE release. The sound quality and music keep you in a slightly circular storyline. Too many "endings" or "twists" if you will. But I did enjoy it. The ending was, as QCODE seems to do a lot, the worst part of it. However, it's not bad at all and it's a good listen all in all
DNF - rare QCODE flop for me. The voice acting was really not good and the story felt kind of all over the place.
Fantastic series. Starts off as a very well-done horror and evolves into a thrill of exposition and supernatural wonder. I'm so glad they took their time and made a second season with a proper ending and all loose strings tied. I love the layering of narratives: there's actually two stories across centuries told in parts through both seasons, both with great arcs and parallels that keep you hooked. Needless to say, even the production and sound design are paramount. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a thriller involving curses and familial love, without being cheesy or overdone.
