Veep is what you get when Buster from Arrested Development and Elaine from Seinfeld are thrust onto the set of The West Wing and given a script meant for The Office. It airs on HBO and is currently recording it's sixth season.
In the first episode we are thrown directly into, in Vice President Meyer's (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) words, the shit. The Vice President and her staff are heading to a fundraiser to raise money for cornstarch eating utensils. Her bag man Gary (Tony Hale) feeds her information about the people at the fundraiser while her chief-of-staff Amy (Anna Chlumsky) attempts to figure out why so few people are there. It turns out an aide has tweeted out that the Vice President was at war with plastics.
While attempting to make a deal with Senator Hallowes (Kate Burton) we are introduced to Dan (Reid Scott), a manipulative shit attempting to be a power player, and, the equally important, Leviathan Gary's giant bag. Upon returning to the office we get to meet the Presidential Liaison to the Vice President Jonah Ryan (Timothy Simons), I man who is as tall as he is annoying. We also meet the Vice President's secretary Sue (Sufe Bradshaw) and her incompetent press secretary Mike (Timothy Hayes Lynch). The Vice President is informed by Jonah that the President requires her attendance at a fundraiser. There is a side story with a condolence card for the wife of a dead politician. The episode wraps up with Vice President Meyer putting her foot in her mouth and using the word "retard" in a joke.
