There are few things worse than watching a beloved fighter continue to battle after his time is up, when he can't find the speed and agility that made him so great in his youth. But out of those dire circumstances, some of boxing's most inspiring moments are born. Erik Morales was brought in to lose to Marcos Maidana. Michael Carbajal was paid to pad the record of Jorge Arce. Jhonny Gonzalez was never meant to beat Abner Mares. 

Skilled veterans relying on craft, experience, and knowledge to teach hot-shot youngsters a lesson. These last stands may not be what the promoters had in mind when they booked the fights, but they comprise some of our favorite pugilistic memories.
