Photography Business Wisdom from Anne Ruthmann

Released Wednesday, 23rd July 2014
Good episode? Give it some love!
I know a lot of photographers; I mean A LOT of photographers, all of different styles and specializations, and the one thing I can say about all of them is that none of them do business the same. Every other aspect of what they do differs from one shooter to the next. To find someone that has a formula that is the sure-fire approach to being a professional photographer; that’s a white whale of a quest.
One thing I can say for certain is I can spot a true professional when I see them, someone who has their business nailed down, and that is exactly what I saw when I first met Anne Ruthmann. I’ve only known Anne a short while, but everything I’ve seen screams hardcore pro. Is she famous? No, but is she solid and savvy? H-E-Double-L yes!
Here’s this woman, traveling the globe, shooting weddings and events on multiple continents, and just when you think you know a little bit about her, she flips the script, and changes her approach. Anne is the queen of pivoting in my book, and you’ll be amazed at how smooth a transition she made while jumping from one niche of photography to another.
Even if you’re not a photographer, there are serious lessons to be learned. Anne sets me straight several times in this conversation and I have no qualms saying that she’s far wiser than I could ever hope to be, and now you can glean some of what wisdom.

“I never look at any competitive market as a killer for me because I know how to make myself work”

In the up front portion, I pay homage to my friends Greg and Srini for taking big leaps with their business, and why that’s good for you.
