Ep 98 An Android Type Robot
Slightly delayed this week due to hurricane Dorian which (at the moment) may or may not be coming to visit Give Me Five Studios, but this week we are covering the 1988 Godfrey Ho masterpiece Robo Vampire, which oddly features no robovampires. It does however find a way to insert footage from multiple other films that are totally unrelated.  We also chat about Mindhunter season 2 and Terror: Infamy, 2 very well produced "history adjacent shows on Netflix and AMC respectively. Rob did that thing where he sees a comedy in the theater so we get a quick review of Good Boys out of him, and Greg gets the chance to talk about GI Joe.  And of course our question of the week: What are the top 5 most deceivingly named movies, tv shows or bands. Remember if you use our link (https://amzn.to/2KxR8OU) we get a little bit of money towards server costs at no extra cost to you. Ep 97 We Don't Need No Stinkin' Badgers - UHF
We are back after taking a week off for the Podcast Movement conference, and while we were gone there was a ton of news. The thing on most people's minds was the "divorce" between Disney and Sony relating to the Spider-man films. How will that play out? Then we take a look at the weird life and weirder documentary from The Amazing Johnathon, available on Hulu. Continuing our 80's summer movie extravaganza we feature Weird Al Yankovic's UHF. An underrated comedy gem that features quirky comedians galore And of course our question of the week: What are the top 5 parody movies? Ep 96 Drunk on the Blue Milk
We planned on talking about a fairly offensive show (The Boys) without or most offensive host (Rob) but things didn't turn out that way. Rob returned early from the cast preview of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at Hollywood Studios Orlando, and we let him join the show. Well, provided that he spoke about his time at the park.  As for topics? We've got a new Tool track (Fear Innoculum), the aforementioned The Boys, and even a fun little game called Pokemon or Prescription Medicine. Having trouble sleeping? Try Snorlax! Continuing our 80's summer movie extravaganza we feature Mark Harmon's Summer School. A movie that reminds us that teacher student relations were a bit different in the pre-internet days.  And of course our question of the week: Who are the 5 best foreign exchange student characters in film and tv? Remember if you use our link (https://amzn.to/2KxR8OU) we get a little bit of money towards server costs at no extra cost to you. Ep 95 It's the Final Countdown feat Moondragon
We have a very special guest this week, Synthwave artist / human  F-14 Tomcat, Moondragon joins us to review his 80's movie of the week, 1981's The Final Countdown. A tale of a modern day aircraft carrier breaching a rift in time and ending up at Pearl Harbor right before the Japanese attack. Sounds badass right? It isn't. Ww also interview Moondragon about his music, F-1 racers, soundtracks, video games and his path into the Synthwave genre (and if he even likes that term) Stay tuned after the show to hear the title cut off his new album Oceana.  We don't stay in the 80's. Greg reviews the "Tarantino Charles Manson flick" Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood. How did Tarantino manage to build a story adjacent to the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders and was it respectful to the victims. Rob gives a Floridian review to the alligator horror film Crawl, and of course we have some weird Florida news for you.  Then this week's question: What are the best military themed movies from the 80's? Ep 94 Beastmasters
This week Rob has the microphone and as a result we get a 30 minute rant about how much Disney screwed the uh... hyena with the latest "live action" film The Lion King. He also made us watch Beastmaster, just in case we don't remember it from it being on TV 24/7 in the 1980s. We do make an effort to class up the joint with The Last Czars, a fairly factually inaccurate but entertaining Netflix docudrama about the end of the Romanov Dynasty. Then the usual Florida craziness, San Diego Comic Con News (lots of Marvel surprises, including Blade!) and of course our question of the week: Then this week's question: What are the best throwable weapons from 1980's film and TV? Ep 93 Flailing Appendage
The summer of 80's movies continues! Jimmy got the pick, and quite frankly things get weird. He chose Sleepaway Camp, with its Long Island accents, age-inappropriate relationships and crazy twists. The boy ain't right. A few quick hits as well, Jimmy covers the re-release of Committed to a Bright Future by Dog Fashion Disco, Rob covers Holy Sister book 3 of the Book of the Ancestor series, and Greg takes on the Battle of the 80's Supercars.  We also talk about weird Florida stuff, which isn't half as weird as Sleepaway Camp, and that is saying quite a bit.  Then this week's question: Rank the 5 best 80's movie and tv cars? Ep 92 Fair is Fair
The summer of 80's movies begins here. This week we begin covering some of our favorite, most cheesy, bikini-filled summer 80's movies. And this week we have a doozy. 1985's The Legend of Billie Jean starring Helen Slater, Christian Slater and Al from Quantum Leap. People ask if Helen and Christian are brother and sister because of this movie, and it's a good thing that they aren't because the choice of hang out attire was not made for siblings.  We also stay in the 80's, at least on a topical level with season 3 of Stranger Things. We cover the season in full, chatting about the shenanigans of America's favorite monster fighting kids. There's also another game! This one based on Stranger Things, and it's 80's references.  Then this week's question: What are the 5 best villain twists in movies? Remember if you use our link (https://amzn.to/2KxR8OU) we get a little bit of money towards server costs at no extra cost to you. Ep 91 Night Monkey
Look, I know I referenced the Night Monkey joke in our title, but we totally forgot to mention it in the episode. But it was a good title, and I'm standing by it. Anyway, a gajillion people saw Spider-Man this 4th of July weekend, and we talk about it here. Also Jimmy checked out the new album by Radiohead's Thom Yorke and the short film that accompanies it.  We also discuss stuff like holiday greetings (Rob's opinions are his own, but he feels like they should be yours) , the final surprise issue of the Walking Dead Comic, book 3 of Babysitter's guide to Monster Hunting, and the upcoming Sandman show on Netflix. Also some weird Florida crap because it's inevitable.  Then this week's question: What are the 5 best villain twists in movies? Ep 90 Lil' Parental Advisory
Pixar surprised us when they announced Toy Story 4, because 3 seemed like such a great close to the series. We checked out the new Pixar film and discussed if it was good or bad, necessary or a cash grab, and the merits of the new story.  We also inject a bit of soul into the show with the fantastic new release by Austin's Black Pumas. This album pulls from soul, hip-hop, and psychedelia and is one of the best albums of the year. Jimmy and Rob break down I Am Mother from Netflix, and there's also a bit of controversy, as we take on Neil Gaiman's God vs. the Devil miniseries, Good Omens on Amazon Prime. Come for the ridiculous banter and stay for the game, real "lil'" rapper or made up lil' rapper.  Then this week's question: What are the 5 times that censorship backfired? Remember if you use our link (https://amzn.to/2KxR8OU) we get a little bit of money towards server costs at no extra cost to you. Ep 89 6-Year Old Reviews Murder Mystery, Which He Hasn't Seen.
This week we review an Adam Sandler movie! (seriously, and yes I am aware that we are supposed to hook listeners in the first sentence, but it's what we've got) We checked out the creatively named Murder Mystery on Netflix as did a gajillion other people. Also, a special guest reviewer joins us, even though he hasn't seen the movie, because he is six.  But thats not all! We cover Danzig's new horror anthology Verotika. (ok we aren't getting better with the hooks) How about Men in Black International? Rob saw it, so you don't have to.  And we chat about new video game offerings at E3. Oh! and weird Florida $#!t, and some Endgame news. That should keep you monsters happy. Then this week's question: What are the 5 best Adam Sandler films? Ep 88 My Wiener's Out
Jimmy got new underwear! Also, we finally get a chance to talk about the hilarious season 1 of What We Do In The Shadows. (It's on FX, seriously, watch it)  We also check out the 3 episode Black Mirror season 5, how does this season stack up to the previous superb seasons of the mind-bending anthology series.  Finally, Rob was one of the 15 people that went to see X-Men Dark Phoenix in the theater. Does he suggest that you become the 16th? Then this week's question via e-mail: What are the 5 television crossovers you would like to see? Ep 87 Go Go Godzilla
Controversy abound on this weeks episode. One of us enjoyed Godzilla: King of the Monsters and another one of us is a big poopiehead. (clearly the one that enjoyed it is writing this blurb). And speaking of giant monsters breaking crap, our Snap Decision covered AEW (All Elite Wrestling) and whether or not it poses a threat to the behemoth WWE.  We also covered Rocketman, the very well-done semi-biopic  about Elton John. The visuals, music, acting and editing were great, so how does this stack up to Bohemian Rhapsody? Then this week's questions: What are the 5 best giant monster movies? Ep 86 Life is Like a Game of Contra
This one is for the kids! Actually it really isn't. Unless you hate your kids and want to ruin their childhoods. But we do review 2 family friendly films Secret Life of Pets 2 (which is due out this coming weekend, so there's no spoilers) and Aladdin which technically is a remake of a film from 1992 so there shouldn't be any worry there. Then we check out the Spielberg-esque sci fi romp (can I say that?) from Netflix, Rim of the World. How does this movie stack up with movies just like it from our childhood, and more importantly with sci fi films with 10x the budget. Then this week's questions: What are the 5 best summer camp movies? Remember if you use our link (https://amzn.to/2KxR8OU) we get a little bit of money towards server costs at no extra cost to you. Ep 85 The Feel Good Series of 2019: Chernobyl
Jimmy was away for this one, so as always we need to apologize. Things start off OK, but quickly devolve thanks to our listeners sending in some phallic news stories. We pull it together with a pretty in-depth conversation about what is the next step in nerd entertainment now that Marvel, Star Wars, Game of Thrones and Big Bang Theory have all reached various ends.  Then things got dark. HBO's Chernobyl, John Wick 3 close out the episode.  And for some reason Greg thought it would be fun to ask this question. What are the 5 movies you'll never see again because the dog dies? Ep 84 Pokemon + Bundy = Critters
While recording it seemed like we were having another eclectic week. I mean what do these things have in common: A non-fiction film about a serial killer's girlfriend, Netflix'sExtremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. A fun family film about cute little monsters trying to solve a crime, Detective Pikachu. And then Jimmy brought Shudder's Critters: The New Binge to the table, and it occurred to me we may have created an equation.  We even have a guest reviewer for Detective Pikachu, a real-life 6-year old for those parents out there deciding whether or not the film is safe for kids.  We also have some fun taste testing things Rob tells us to eat. (never let Rob tell you to put things in your mouth) And our question of the week:What are the 5 best live-action kids films from the 80's? GMF Special - Game of Thrones S8E5 Behold a White Horse
The battle to end all battles is here. Daenerys' forces are amassing at King's Landing. Dany has taken a few losses over this season, but will she win the one thing she feels is owed to her. Will her dragon survive the scorpion lined walls of King's landing? Will all these losses drive her mad like her father? Who will win, lose, survive, face their demons or succumb to them. Will the Clegane Bowl happen? Will Jamie go back to Cersei to embrace her or kill her? Ep 83 Give Me Five Sings the Blues
The fall TV season is coming to a close so we had a moment to catch up on some streaming titles. So we checked out a Netflix documentary on the Delta Blues pioneer Robert Johnson, ReMastered Devil at the Crossroads. This documentary gives you a look into the all too short life of one of the most influential people in American music history. Then we checked out Black Summer, and well.. it will not be one of the most influential things in American tv history.  Also, we covered the season finale of the Orville and the series finale of Gotham. Does Batman show up? (on either show really) And our question of the week:What are the 5 best time jumps in television history?
