Now Hear this! No seriously, you HAVE to hear this! What a hilarious podcast, l mean it's like Firefly, Red Dwarf and Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy all had crazy groupsex and had an Irish comedy baby! If that sounds slightly twisted...so does the series! It's hilarious and fun and well written and you just won't be able to get enough!
An absolutely wonderful array of characters, brilliantly written and bloody hilarious. I've heard it called "father ted meets firefly" but I feel that diminishes the uniqueness of this show. One of the great things about it is the characters, it's what fully draws you in, you really start to love this (as the podcast itself puts it) na'er - do - well captain and his rag-tag crew
Amazingly funny, (currently) underrated scifi comedy drama. Silly characters, interesting plots, some moving moments, it's got it all. And while the characters act silly in the moment, they're complex and fleshed out and feel enough like real people for you to get invested in the story.
Great fun! I love the characters, love the humor, and cannot WAIT for S2!
The Green Horizon is fun and friendly with the listener, it has a varied and interesting cast, each character contributes to the construction of the story in their own way and you will definitely become fond of at least one of them.
This show makes me laugh so much and I love all the voices! Really a great listen, you should check it out!!More over, Paul is a kind person and a genuine friend. He has a nice thing to say about everyone, and I am humbled to know him.
Can’t believe I haven’t gotten around to leaving a review on this beautiful gem of a fiction podcast. I mean, Irish people? In space? What’s not to love?! This show mixes hilarious (and sometimes extremely dark) writing with awesome sound design (especially in season 2!) and characters that, on paper, sound about as lovable as a group of rabid ferrets, but in execution, this found family has my complete adoration. Moreover, the creator, Paul, is a bloody wonderful chap. He’s genuinely a super nice bloke, and very willing to help us out if need be. I’m honestly honoured to call you a friend, mate.If you like dark comedy, sci-if, or get the giggles when you hear an Irish accent, this show is certainly for you. Can’t wait for season 3!
Sci-Fi Audiodrama at its finest. Fast-paced, with short well written seasons. The universe is expansive and the characters are well thought out. The green horizon is a mix of Firefly, Red Dwarf, and Orville. It's real Sci-Fi but it has that element of campyness to it that gives it charm.
A hilarious and fun scifi podcast that will be sure to tickle most people's fancy. Fantastic voice actors, writing, and production make this a gem to enjoy. Highly recommend it!
This is truly a rare gem! Firstly, the podcast is really really funny. Every episode has multiple moments of truly hilarious comedy. A second listen is when I realized there was much more going on in the overall story. The farther one goes, the more subtle, sometimes random, pieces of character backstory, are found peppered throughout the episodes. It is through these pieces that we, the listener, are able to see a more complete view of the characters. Additionally, It is in those sometimes broken pieces that we should see ourselves. The voice actor’s performances are consistently brilliant. Their consistency made it impossible to pinpoint when I became totally emotionally engaged. I cannot recommend this podcast enough. Weeks after I finished the season I found myself thinking about a character, or some aspect of the storyline. It’s rare when an artist’s work sticks with you like that. Fantastic job to all who were/are part of making this podcast. Personally, this connected with me in an unexpected yet very therapeutic way. A tip of my hat! To a perfect mental escape, from the shit show, that is currently, reality.
Had a lot of fun listening to this sci-fi comedy! The jokes are actually funny and Irish crew is loveable. The trope of spaceship crew as a found family is my favourite! The audio drama reminds me of some 90-00-ss TV shows I used to love. It has a very sentimental old-school vibe and mostly avoids boring steryotypes. The only problem was their sound design but the comedy and storytelling was so great that it didn't bother me at all. It kinda makes podcast more authentic!
A great cast of characters, adeptly voiced. The series hits the full gamut from hilarious to reflective hitting each note perfectly. Really looking forward to more.
The dialogue moves fast, but honestly, this is one podcast I don't mind having to double back on if I miss something. Character voices are distinct and extremely endearing, and it's easy to get a clear distinction of their uniquely ridiculous personalities. Overall hilarious and well done.
Red Dwarf, Hyperdrive, Firefly - they're all kinda here, this is your Irish answer to those programmes, a little bit of mischief, a little bit of missfortune, alot of luck and this adventure takes you for the ride ❤️
If you love sitcoms, this is as great as they come for audiodramas. I will admit I'm a sucker for Irish accent so I might be biased, but the characters? the gags? the STORY? Damn, it manages quite well humor + heavy themes and drama. I need Peter to be ok, and Gino to call me a Friday night.
This podcast has all the polish of driveway gravel and the finesse of a chipmunk falling down the stairs; that being said, the characters were hilarious and they kept me listening episode after episode. If you're looking for something fluffy and fun, you should definitely give it a try!
The Green Horizon is the epitome of Irish science fiction at its best. It's like a perfect blend of Father Ted meets Firefly.Following a ragtag band of Irish spacefarers (plus a Canadian), we're thrown into a universe embroiled in war, religious terrorism and cannibals with no option but to push on to the next job to survive. The characters are realistic, the dialogue sharp and witty with plenty of dark Irish humour thrown in for maximum effect. This is an excellent show and I can't wait for season 3!
i could fix gino. i won't because this is funnier but i could.
Yes. Listen now. Yes do that. My ability to write an eloquent review has failed me. I love this audio drama.
The Green Horizon is an unremarkable ship that gets into a remarkable amount of trouble. It's also an excellent scifi audio drama with snappy patter and great effects, taking place in a unique vision of the future. Like Star Trek, space is a frontier with the ships as wagon trains. Like Cowboy Bebop, space is multicultural as humanity has expanded beyond borders. And like Firefly, space is freedom and attempts by government to tame it fall flat. This all makes it sound far more dramatic than it is in practice, but it is wondrous to hear the Irish Space Captain Gino Whelan navigate his crew through a universe full of cannibals, Puritans, and Euthenian Scotch.
