RATING
"The greatest monsters are the ones in human clothes." Melanie Bird in the tv series LegionWriting: B+Plot: B+Voice Acting: ASound quality: AProduction: AThe Haven Chronicles is about a military ship responds to a distress signal on a planet. The planet is being run by adolescents. They are very bright adolescents that appear preternaturally mature until a character mentions ice cream then they act as typical adolescents. The landing party consists of an officer to lead the team, science techs and a military sargent for protection. Each member of the landing party has a unique relationship with each other and the military. I find myself interested in them all. My favorite is the character who quotes lines from TV in the 1990s. He does a fairly good shaggy of Scooby Doo.The denizens of the planet, the children are the leaders but unlike the children of the Midwich Cuckoo's, they are not of like mind. Each child has their own agenda and they each try to use the landing party to their advantage. This wouldn't be an issue except it's hard to tell what is real. This is what is challenging about this podcast, we have only sound to help us follow what's happening. One moment they are back on the ship, another time they are in the world that follows the rules of an old video game. Things happen and it's really hard to figure out what real. It's like the HBO series "Legion"I know that's the point but without visual cues, it's hard to tell how it all fits together. I could see people giving up on the podcast due to confusion.I would like to say it will all make sense by the end of the season. However, there are some clarifying episodes but not enough to give you a way to navigate through the episodes.I like mysteries. I loved Legion season 1. I am hoping my favorite character will eventually help oriented me as we swims the various realities that exist on haven.Disclaimer: Those that can do, those that can't, teach and those that don't teach, criticize. I am in the third category. If you disagree with me, please post your disagreement. We all learn so much more from a diversity of input.
A rescue mission to a strange planet goes wrong, and Everybody has a different perception of what happened, or... A mind game or psychological experiment that makes "The Matrix" look like kindergarten. Listen and try to work it out. It's worth it.
