With a long commute, I go through a lot of podcasts and audible books.I found and went through the History Cache, show by show, and was taken by how good this thing is. Wanting more, I started listening to the shows a second time. While going through The Last Voyage of Shackleton again, I was struck by how talented Kristin is, and in how many ways. She is - the - best I've heard from podcast land in a lot of areas. She has a huge heart (as when she tries to describe the horrible killing of the dogs in Shackleton) coupled with obvious intelligence (a rare combination). She clearly spends a lot of time researching and compiling information on her subjects. Her writing and production to bring each story to us is amongst the best of the podcastsers. But it's her vocal presentation of all of this preparation that really makes it for me and will for you as well. She is not a deadbeat reader by any means. In baseball, we'd call her a five tool player. Wait...six tool. She has a great sense of humor that helps lift the darkest story. For technical mastery, listen to her description of Phillip walking to his death in Olympia. For heartfelt devotion to her subject, listen to the series on Leadbelly or her show on African American pilot Bessie Coleman. For dragging you right into the middle of a march against incredible odds, listen to Shackelton (definitely) or Escape from Amazon. Ahh, they're all good. I'm writing this because I found something good, and think you can too.
