RATING
I had no idea what I was actually in for when I first heard this. Great acting and a gruesome story push this idea off the cliff with fervor and reckless abandon, leaving the listener horrified as well as entertained. The humor scattered throughout helps to balance out the mood, but rest assured, it's an incredibly dark story. Highly recommended, especially for fans of films like Peter Yuzna's "Society" and Larry Cohen's "The Stuff!"
The most underrated podcast deserving of much more buzz than it's been getting. A true horror podcast with a lot to say about how we treat one another as humans. The Horror of Dolores Roach has the most out-of-this-world voice acting I've ever heard...period.
I really enjoyed the first season of this podcast. The acting, direction, the story. Started the second season and what they had accomplished in first was gone.
Fun and entertaining without feeling like it was trying too hard to be cryptic the way a lot of the fiction podcasts are going these days! Interesting characters and good acting! Keep up the good work, Gimlet.
This whole series is top shelf. It is so well written, performed and produced. The dark, unique tone of this story hooked me right away. It was well paced. Watching the streaming series adaptation on Amazon, which is produced by Blumhouse is a thrill! It is interesting to see the changes they made adapting it for the screen.
Dolores Roach is fresh out of prison, and fresh out of options. When Luis Batista takes her in, he sets her up with everything: a roof over her head, a job, the possibility of a future. The Horror of Dolores Roach is a real-world horror podcast with rough edges and colourful characters aplenty. No "everyman" generic characters here. No government conspiracy theorists, either. The storyline is shaped by desperation, particularly in situations born of poverty. This is an urban horror podcast done right.
Frantic and fascinating, this show had me questioning whether to laugh at the shock of the unfolding horror or mourn the tragedy of the-monster-who-sincerely-tried-to-do-right.
This is one of my all time favourites. Outstanding
Exactly what I want out of a fiction podcast. It nails the scene exactly (I live in NYC and listened to much of this while walking in the city) and the writing exacts an expert creeping suspense. Excited to see where this goes next.
I really enjoyed the first season of this audio drama, the second season... not so much. The Horror of Dolores Roach centers on the life of Dolores after she is released from a sixteen year prison sentence. Initially, she seems interested in finding her boyfriend and being 'above board,' but her intentions warp and she goes from being a drug dealer (her initial arrest) to a cold blooded killer (or hunter as she likes to see herself). I thought the first season was really well done. The voice acting was great and the story itself kept me pulled in. Not only were there the horror and drama elements, but it also spoke on things such as gentrification and the wiping out of cultural areas when new, wealthier people, begin moving in. There are a few adult situations in this one, but they're not too graphic - which I appreciate since I listen to most shows at work (headphones in).The second season still had the same great voice acting and story telling, but this story didn't need to be told - imo. It went from an interesting tale to a weird underground cult led by mentally unstable cannibals, and I felt that really took away from The Horror of Dolores Roach. I think they could of stopped at Season One and wrapped it up with a great story there.
