Going to read Sebastian's book "Tribe" after hearing this! Really interesting to hear Sebastian and Joe talk about the conflict of Evolution vs. Modern Society and how that could be shaping today's common mental health issues. Short anecdote: one of the best periods of my life was living with 100 other students in another country -- never felt so connected, and I think it had a lot to do with the "community affairs" that we were always dealing with as a group. This episode touches on this quite a bit, but with more drastic examples like military experiences.
Really amazing discussion of evolutionary psychology, and I've seen a lot.
One of the best I've heard.
Loved this episode. It had a big effect on what I want to do with my life and how I want to live. I ended up ordering "Tribe" after listening to this episode. The book is excellent, but much of the book is already touched on in the podcast, so there's really no need to read it.
Junger is one of the most thoughtful and dedicated researchers on PTSD and the psychological ramifications of modern life in the absence of communitarian societies.
Extremely profound episode. Sebastian is a deep thinker.
I've been fascinated with Mr. Junger since Restrepo so with was a very interesting podcast for me.
