On today’s episode, Greg and Brian are talking about a case that is about to be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court involving the confiscation of private property during the course of a police investigation. Although the property that was confiscated was legally purchased firearms, this case has more to do with the 4thAmendment of the Constitution than it does the 2nd Amendment. Greg and Brian cover a legal gray area known as the “Community Caretaking” exception that pertains to a police officer's ability to perform a warrantless search. If you would like more information about the specific cases we discuss please see the episode details for links to the court filing as well as an article that summarizes the events.Episode Linkshttps://www.fedagent.com/news-articles/first-circuit-extends-the-community-caretaking-exception-to-the-homehttps://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/20/20-157/149833/20200810154908347_Caniglia%20v.%20Strom%20-%20Cert%20Petition.pdfContact LinksFollow us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/HBPRA/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arcadia_cognerati/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1S7E4hgSfLVWi4jGlKKqawWebsite: https://www.arcadiacognerati.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/A_CogneratiItunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/left-of-greg-podcast/id1448181902Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1BgPDLkWp5iptfZOnXvSSEMusic from https://filmmusic.io  "District Four" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com) License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LeftOfGreg/)
On today’s episode Greg and Brian are talking about another “Gregism” called the Happy Head. The Happy Head affects all humans and it especially affects us during exciting events like the robbery and shooting spree that we bring up during the episode or even while Greg is attempting new parkour moves. During these events, we often “outrun our headlights” because we don’t realize that we’ve lost our critical thinking abilities.  They also discuss how humans first learn, then test, then push their boundaries. Please don’t forget to follow us on social media, you can find the links in the episode details, and if you enjoy the podcast, please tell your friends about it!Contact LinksFollow us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/HBPRA/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arcadia_cognerati/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1S7E4hgSfLVWi4jGlKKqawWebsite: https://www.arcadiacognerati.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/A_CogneratiItunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/left-of-greg-podcast/id1448181902Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1BgPDLkWp5iptfZOnXvSSEMusic from https://filmmusic.io  "District Four" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com) License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LeftOfGreg/)
On today’s episode, Greg and Brian are joined by their long time friend Matt Fennel.Matt is currently running a training facility aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and he also still serves in the Marine Corps Reserves. Matt has trained tens of thousands of Marines in his career and brings an extraordinary amount of experience to this particular conversation. Matt recently reached out to Brian and Greg regarding his area of study for the graduate program he is enrolled in. After a few email exchanges, they decided to hop on a call to discuss the topic. Basically, the question that Matt is trying to answer is “How do I squash the learning curve?” Meaning, how do we speed up the learning process without losing quality and experience? They get into a number of areas during the discussion including institutional memory, what makes up proficiency, and how we are never really taught HOW to learn.Although several of the examples used in the episode involve the military, they also relate these issues directly to the private sector and some of the Fortune 100 companies that they have worked with in the past.  This conversation was not originally intended to be a podcast but we decided to hit the record button after about ten minutes of talking so please forgive us for some of the audio issues as well as the profanity! The episode starts with Matt explaining why he reached out to us and the conversation picks up right from there.Contact LinksFollow us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/HBPRA/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arcadia_cognerati/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1S7E4hgSfLVWi4jGlKKqawWebsite: https://www.arcadiacognerati.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/A_CogneratiItunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/left-of-greg-podcast/id1448181902Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1BgPDLkWp5iptfZOnXvSSEMusic from https://filmmusic.io  "District Four" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com) License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LeftOfGreg/)

On today’s episode, Greg and Brian are doing a breakdown of Colonel John Boyd’s OODA Loop. Some of you may have heard of this before but for those that haven’t the OODA loop stands for Observe Orient, Decide, Act and it is a decision-making process that can be used effectively in rapidly unfolding situations. The reason they are discussing this highly complex decision-making model is that it is often misrepresented or oversimplified to the point of it becoming cliché. Brian and Greg cover a number of topics in this episode  including psychological intimidation & De-escalation, information theory, decision theory, and what Greg refers to as the “Willy Wonka Effect.” We’ve provided some links in the episode details that will lead to the books or publications that we reference in the episode. On today’s episode, Greg and Brian are talking about the current climate regarding the lack of trust that many people feel regarding major news outlets. They start the conversation by putting things into a historical context with a brief discussion on how the invention of the printing press is a lot like the invention of major social media outlets. They also bring up the different biases that affect our own interpretation of information and how that can be even more difficult given the number of news stories we consume on a daily basis. They end the discussion with some possible ways to address the apparent lack of accountability and responsibility seen across different media platforms.Follow us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/HBPRA/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arcadia_cognerati/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1S7E4hgSfLVWi4jGlKKqawWebsite: https://www.arcadiacognerati.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/A_CogneratiItunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/left-of-greg-podcast/id1448181902Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1BgPDLkWp5iptfZOnXvSSEMusic from https://filmmusic.io "District Four" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LeftOfGreg/)

On today’s episode, Greg and Brian are discussing some recent, as well as some historical examples of how and when the 1st Amendment of the Constitution applies in certain situations. We specifically talk about the recent story of a Louisville Police Officer who was forced to resign after an internal police department email was leaked and we compare that case to some other recent events that we’ve seen. This discussion was recorded not long after Greg and Brian hosted a webinar focused on private corporations getting involved in social movements and the potential liability that goes along with it.Episode LinksWebinar: https://vimeo.com/user107032142https://bluelivesmatter.blue/commander-relieved-of-command-after-calling-antifa-and-blm-punks/https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/local/2020/09/25/maj-bridget-hallahan-relieved-duty-retire-after-blm-comments/3531760001/Contact LinksFollow us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/HBPRA/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arcadia_cognerati/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1S7E4hgSfLVWi4jGlKKqawWebsite: https://www.arcadiacognerati.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/A_CogneratiItunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/left-of-greg-podcast/id1448181902Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1BgPDLkWp5iptfZOnXvSSEMusic from https://filmmusic.io "District Four" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LeftOfGreg/)
On today’s episode, Greg and Brian are joined by Dr. Colleen Richardson. Colleen is the chief of psychology at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dallas, Texas and is also a veteran herself. Recently, Brian met Colleen in Salt Lake City at the funeral for his friend and fellow Marine veteran Tyler Bues. On August 25th of this year, Tyler, or “Blue” as many people called him, fell victim to the mental health issues he was facing and committed suicide. As discussed in the show, these all too familiar incidents are incredibly emotional and very hard to understand.  Colleen is an amazing person and she does an incredible job helping veterans every single day. She is one of the people that are "fighting it out in the streets" every day, saving the lives of countless veterans. During the episode, she gives some great takeaways that anyone can benefit from. When someone commits suicide we often forget about the people they leave behind so one thing we would ask you to do is to check out the links below and if you can, please contribute to the Go Fund Me that was set up to help out Blue’s wife and two young boys. It’s a simple way to directly help someone in need.   GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-our-beus-familyContact LinksFollow us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/HBPRA/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arcadia_cognerati/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1S7E4hgSfLVWi4jGlKKqawWebsite: https://www.arcadiacognerati.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/A_CogneratiItunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/left-of-greg-podcast/id1448181902Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1BgPDLkWp5iptfZOnXvSSEMusic from https://filmmusic.io "District Four" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LeftOfGreg/)
On today’s episode, Greg and Brian are joined by their good friend Mike Siracuse. Mike is a Scientist, Pilot, Entrepreneur, Producer, and Information Theorist who has been serving our country both inside and outside the Department of Defense for several decades. Mike has an amazing ability to draw on his vast array of life experiences which includes everything from being an enlisted sailor to working alongside some of the most brilliant minds that our country has ever produced. In fact, Mike was even part of the team that built the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s TIA program. If you’re not familiar with that is we've provided some links below, but basically it was the massive terrorist surveillance program built by the US Government following the attacks on 9/11.During the episode we discuss a number of different topics that are all related to Information theory including how we describe information, how it’s categorized, how to use it for predictive analysis and most importantly, how to operationalize information into a training solution.Mike draws on a number of examples to illustrate his points including fighting fires, hunting terrorists, and even the weaponization of 911.Greg and I really enjoyed this conversation and we’re thinking about doing a future mini-series with Mike where we take one specific topic and have a detailed discussion on that issue. If that’s something that sounds interesting to you please reach out and let us know, we would love to get your feedback.Episode Linkshttps://www.epic.org/privacy/profiling/tia/tiasystemdescription.pdfhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_Information_AwarenessContact LinksFollow us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/HBPRA/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arcadia_cognerati/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1S7E4hgSfLVWi4jGlKKqawWebsite: https://www.arcadiacognerati.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/A_CogneratiItunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/left-of-greg-podcast/id1448181902Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1BgPDLkWp5iptfZOnXvSSEMusic from https://filmmusic.io "District Four" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LeftOfGreg/)
On today’s episode Greg and Brian are discussing how your daily routines are necessary for accomplishing your goals but at the same time can cloud your judgment. People on both ends of the experience scale, meaning people with a very HIGH level of experience and people with a very LOW level of experience, can often fall victim to their own biases. Some of the examples they discuss today include cat ladies, mountain climbers, outlaw motorcycle gangs, and conserving energy versus learning to adapt!Don’t forget to follow us on social media and feel free to reach out to us with any questions!Episode Links Dr. Carlos Show: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXt8U5DZB797pO0b8unFBFgDetect The Wolf: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCallutf0BT2TbRchBFAXIEQBUDO Magazine Article: https://issuu.com/budoweb/docs/martial_arts_magazine_budo_international_411___sep/178?fbclid=IwAR3R0U10tUvgoz2BBfRpAxdFAx46J_-7dN43S8FDi4SI1e2qdnJqBUrlgT4Contact LinksFollow us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/HBPRA/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arcadia_cognerati/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1S7E4hgSfLVWi4jGlKKqawWebsite: https://www.arcadiacognerati.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/A_CogneratiItunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/left-of-greg-podcast/id1448181902Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1BgPDLkWp5iptfZOnXvSSEMusic from https://filmmusic.io "District Four" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LeftOfGreg/)
On today’s episode, Greg and Brian are joined by John Carughi, who is usually referred to as the “Weapon Snatcher.”A few months ago John was working a security detail for a news station covering the riots in Seattle when he witnessed a looter break into a police car, steal the rifle from inside and then begin firing the weapon indiscriminately. John immediately sprang into action and took the weapon from the shooters' hands before they could hurt anyone.Only minutes later, John witnessed another rioter steal another rifle from a different police car. John once again stepped in and snatched the rifle out of his hands which was caught on film by the news crew. If you would like to see the video, check the episode details for the link.On the show, John talks about the planning and preparation he did leading up to the events of that day that prepared him for the situation he faced. On today’s episode, Greg and Brian are talking about a concept called “fake it till you make it” or also known as “acting as if.”Although this concept can be used successfully in certain situations, it can also give you a false sense of confidence in your abilities which can lead to you to “fight outside your weight class.” This way of thinking may also cause you to be more susceptible to confirmation bias.Greg and Brian give several examples of how this type of thinking can affect your performance and they also discuss some of the ways you can get better at spotting people who don’t really know as much as they probably should about an issue. In today’s episode, Greg and Brian are joined by Air Force Veteran and Author Andy Brown. Andy is on the show to discuss his book “Warnings Unheeded” where he documents the events leading up to two seemingly unrelated tragedies that occurred when he was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in 1994. The first event Andy talks about was the crash of a B-52 bomber that happened during a rehearsal for an upcoming air show. The second event that Andy talks about, which occurred just 4 days before the B-52 crash, was an active shooter attack at the Hospital on base where Andy single-handedly stopped the shooter from killing more people. After leaving the Air Force, Andy investigated both incidents and found an alarming amount of pre-event indicators in the YEARS leading up to both tragedies. Andy wrote about these indicators in great detail in his book “Warnings Unheeded, Twin Tragedies at Fairchild Air Force Base”The documented behaviors that Andy wrote about were obvious red flags… in both cases. No matter what your job is or who you are, you will definitely be able to use the information that is in the book. Check out the book here: https://amzn.to/2PdPOnyVideo of the B-52 Crash: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HJ4z1jGEcAFollow us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/HBPRA/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arcadia_cognerati/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1S7E4hgSfLVWi4jGlKKqawWebsite: https://www.arcadiacognerati.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/A_CogneratiItunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/left-of-greg-podcast/id1448181902Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1BgPDLkWp5iptfZOnXvSSEMusic from https://filmmusic.io "District Four" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LeftOfGreg/)
