Whisper the words "prestige science fiction" in the mirror five times, and The Mid-Season Replacements will appear - this time, they've been summoned to disseminate the much-anticipated debut of FX on Hulu's Devs, from Annihilation and Ex-Machina scribe Alex Garland. But it is not just the experimental, visually intoxicating techno babble Randy and Sean have their focus on; using Devs as a lens to deconstruct how we watch television in 2020, their discussion reaches beyond their own thoughts, to try and explain some of the strangely divisive critical reaction to the series, as well as where Devs sits among its contemporary high-profile counterparts.
