This is a short episode about a big hidden lesson I learned watching the Christmas Chronicles on Nextflix.
Do you ever feel like you have tunnel vision in life? We get so caught up in the race of life we often never slow down to really see where we are heading.  It becomes all about the next thing, the next vacation, the car.  COVID has forced a lot of people to really take an inventory of where they were headed.  David Pere asked some of those same questions while he was serving and looked at the choices people were making ahead of him after retirement and said that is not the path I choose.  Through that choice, he found a passion for real estate investing and now has a platform to help others navigate this road and understand what they need to know.  Topics Covered: Real Estate Investing Putting your money to work Breaking free from expectations Your network determines your net worth Using masterminds to change your thinking Why travel is important Helping kids understand how they fit into this world Coming home after a deployment Creating clarity in your life Understand failure How to connect with guest Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1735593999901619/ YouTube: https://bit.ly/37wVlPE Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/frommilitarytomillionaire/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/military_to Website: https://www.frommilitarytomillionaire.com/ Thank you for Listening to the Episode! Are we raising kids or raising adults?
Do you hide your life stories from your kids? Veterans live a very rich life, we have stories, we have the depth to our views, and we know how to connect with others.  But on the other side of transition, we often don't see how life was happening for us and how we might be able to help others who went down a similar way.  We do this often becomes we are ashamed, worried of being judged, and afraid of what "they might think" of us after they really know my story.  Gloria Rendon has a story that has driven her to do more and be more in her life. She has worked as an advocate for clients with mental health and substance use disorders for nearly a decade. She has progressive experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She has worked with agencies and organizations within North and South Carolina to provide evidence-based training to counselors, practitioners, non-clinical staff, agencies, organizations, and clients regarding mental health and addiction. She serves as a federal grant reviewer which allows for funding for both of these populations; specifically for underserved populations. Has counseled and consulted on thousands of clinical cases she has proven leadership and supervisory experience. Gloria is a public speaker and has headlined symposiums on the East Coast. A Palm State of Mind was founded on Gloria's experience as a counselor and is focused on providing inclusive treatment by a representative staff. I speak about a message I received on Instagram from a young teenager, who said "I miss my dad."
Ever had that feeling your life is headed in the wrong direction?  I think we all get to that point where we start looking around at where we are and asking is this how I wanted my life to unfold.  This episode is rich with the wisdom of making that change and finding a better direction.  A critical element that many dads struggle with isn't always a new direction, but a new destination.  We have such a narrow view of how we can fit into the world.  As we talk about often on the podcast after your time is done your legacy will be the direction and destinations you were headed and what did you leave behind on that path. Brent Bowers, is an investor and coach with a focus on buying and selling vacant land. As an Army Officer with over 8 years of service, Brent was spending a great deal of time away from his family, and he knew he needed to make some changes in order to be more present with his wife and children. Brent began investing in real estate as a way to support his family while having more time to spend with them. In a short period of time, Brent was able to expand his business, hire a team, and (most importantly) spend quality time with his family while still working hard and helping others. Brent now helps other investors learn the ins and outs of buying land. What kind of footsteps are you leaving behind?  Recently my four-year-old daughter laid down some sage wisdom on me and I couldn’t miss the opportunity to bring it to you.   The steps we take in our life will be the steps that our kids follow in theirs.   Are you leaving the right steps?
How much are you loving the life you have right now? In our modern society, it can be easy to get caught up in the trap to always want more, but this mindset forgets one important step. Loving the life we have, life won't give you more of something until you appreciate what you already have.  Today on the podcast Josh opens up his heart to share what his coming home story was like and it is not a conversation you want to miss.  If you have deployed before this episode will hit pretty close to home.  Josh Steffens is a passionate father, veteran, and business owner. As the CEO and owner of Hollywood Powder Company, Josh has spent the last three years building a highly regarded brand. Josh and his team are focused on delivering high-quality products to hard-working men and women.  In Josh’s current role within Hollywood Powder Company, he focused on emerging markets, growth, and places a large emphasis on customer satisfaction. Throughout his fifteen-year tenure within the Wisconsin National Guard, Josh has built a reputation for developing service members both personally and professionally. His leadership style is focused on empowering those to achieve outstanding results no matter their rank or position. Josh currently serves in the guard in the role of a Master Sergeant and is the Senior Enlisted Advisor of Intelligence within the Engineer Regiment. Josh’s awards and decorations include; Purple Heart, Army Accommodation Medal with Valor 5th award, Army Achievement Medal 4th award, The De Fleury Medal, Valorous Unit Citation, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Gold Star.   Josh Steffens is a husband, and father of two children. He is inspired daily by his family, Josh takes pride in being a father and watching his children grow every day.  When Josh isn’t working he is often spending time with his family outdoors or taking a late-night/early morning run.     "Put down the devices and spend that quality time. It's better to love what you have before life teaches you to love what you lost." - Josh Steffens Discount Code: MVD @ https://hollywoodpowderco.com/ Topics Covered: Returning from deployment Talking to new dads Doing better as a unit to talk about family The war within Starting a conversation Losing a friend The masks we wear How to connect with guest Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hollywoodpowderco Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hollywood_powder_co/ Website: https://hollywoodpowderco.com/ Thank you for Listening to the Episode! Where are you going? A Buddhist monk is walking a small trail along a mountain when a horse suddenly came galloping quickly down the road. The horse was moving so quickly the monk had to jump out of the way.   It seemed as though the man had somewhere important to go. The monk who was now on the side of the road, shouted, “Where are you going?” and the man on the horse replied, “I don’t know! Ask the horse!” This short (and confusing) story has an interesting meaning behind it. The horse is a symbol of our habits, which constantly pull us in the direction it wants to. It illustrates how most people usually live, at the mercy of their habits created by mindless activity and surrounding environment. If you stopped to ask yourself what you’re doing or why you’re running around so much, you might be surprised to learn how your actions are largely dictated by habits- not your free will. And as much energy as we put into running around, a lot of the time it gets us nowhere. You have to realize you can take the reins and make your own destiny.
Did you take the roads less traveled in your life? So often we take the roads we see in front of us, or the roads cleared by our parents, but how often do we actually break free and find new roads.  As a veteran, we are told there is one way to find our path, get an interview, get a job, get a degree, and you find your place in the world.  But so many veterans don't fit into the standard model we never realize a difference is possible.  Brett had a similar journey and without any history of being an entrepreneur, he decided to see what this path would take him.  Topics Covered: Expanding how our kids see the world The roles are fathers play in our lives Becoming an entrepreneur Behind the scenes on beard oil Owning a business Finding a mentor in life Discount Code: FIRST20 | https://www.gibbysbeardco.com/ How to connect with guest Facebook: https://business.facebook.com/gibbysbeardco Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gibbysbeardco/ Website: https://www.gibbysbeardco.com/ Thank you for Listening to the Episode! Do you struggle with feeling valued?  Joel Stewart was in a similar spot in his life while serving where he had a medical disability take away his ability to move.  His journey over the next five years and since is nothing short of inspiring. I know many people who find that when life hits them hard, they feel immobilized to change the situation or find a path they can take.  Joel breaks down for us what he calls the value equation and how it can help you find the right next step to take to lead you on a better path.   "It is not about what you can't do, it is about what you can do" - Joel Stewart Books Mentioned https://amzn.to/3nPscoi - Man Search For Meaning, by Victor Frankl https://amzn.to/3bO7cMk - The Value Equation, by Joel Stewart Topics Covered: How life can change in an instant How is my life happening for me Confirmation Bias Having the courage to act The value equation Helping your kids find their value How to connect with guest LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joelstewartmba/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/joelstewartmba Website: https://www.thevalueequation.org/ | International Franchise Market Thank you for Listening to the Episode! Do you find yourself in a loop of the same mistakes, different days? On this episode of the Military Veteran Dad podcast we talk about how that to create the change externally in our world we seek, we must first seek to change the world inside first. This has many angles to it, but at the core is understanding the blueprint you learned growing up is the one you default to when times get tough.  When times get hard and you have kids yelling and screaming and you feel like you are helpless to find control.  Know that you are no alone.  Millions of parents are feeling the same way and in many ways, the events of 2020 have brought to the surface more of our own insecurities. Rachel brings a conversation rich on love, self-reflection, and taking a new direction. As a former divorce attorney, she wanted to make an impact on families before they ever got to her.  So like every entrepreneur she saw a problem, she felt like she could make a difference and started a coaching practice helping to help parents who feel success at work, but struggle to find that feeling in their personal life. Topics Covered: Reparenting yourself Feeling success at work, but not at home Feeling like a whole person What kind of life do you want your kids to have When fear shows up in parenting It is never too late to start a change How to connect with guest LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sagacitylab/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SagacityLab-110939660484224/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_rachelduffycoach_/ Website: https://www.sagacitylab.com/ Thank you for Listening to the Episode! This week on the podcast I talk about a trick I learned a few years ago to make sure you don't end up with vacation to burn at the end of the year in a big panic.
Do you feel in control of your life? So many dads today are running on autopilot and with a year like 2020 you might even being like the wheels have come off.  No one is going to care more about your life than you do, but we rarely take full responsibility to own our life and the choices that have got us to where we are today.  Andy Storch is a man who decided to take full ownership for his life and the results he was getting.  He is an author, consultant, coach, speaker, and facilitator on a mission to get the most out of life and inspire others to do the same. The author of the book, Own Your Career Own Your Life, is designed to help professionals stop drifting and take control of their futures. The host of two podcasts, including The Talent Development Hot Seat and Andy Storch Show, and the co-founder and host of The Talent Development Think Tank Conference and Community as well as the host of the Talent Development Virtual Summit. Andy has consulted and taught strategy, sales, leadership, finance, and innovation to business leaders all over the world including companies like Salesforce.com, the NBA, Oracle, Google, Box, Toyota, State Farm, Red Bull, HP, Sony, Cisco, and others. Do you know your why? Simon Sinek popularized the idea with his golden circle Ted Talk and book, "Start With Why".  Today I welcome back Kirby Ingles to talk about his new coaching practice to help people navigate their careers and find their mission, passion, and purpose in their career to realign who with they are. Many Veterans and civilians get lost in this process of accepting a job and don't really create goals to stretch them to the next challenge or just make sure they get ot he destination they want for their life.
