Happy Friday the 13th you Cellar Dwelling horror hounds! Last time we did this, back in December, we talked about Final Chapter, and maybe you thought that was the final chapter for this franchise, but lo and behold, like the titular character, this franchise just won't die (even if it maybe should)! So, here we are, with a fresh start or some might say A New Beginning, and a fresh batch of teenagers showing skin and getting killed by a hockey mask wearing, machete wielding, unstoppable force of nature. So, basically A New Beginning in most ways is not a new beginning so much as a retread, but there might be something of a twist to the machete this time around, you'll have to watch to find out (or just listen to us spoil it for you in this episode). Keep your head on a swivel out there boys and girls and avoid taking off your clothes in the woods because that is a guaranteed recipe for getting your wig split! If you wanna hear some more fun Friday the 13th goodness check out our episode on Part 1 and Part 4, and our Month of Horrors installment on youtube of Part 2, AND make sure to check out our good friends at Horror Movie Club, they've done an episode on each of parts 1-4!Horror Movie Club on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2wrLT0lHorror Movie Club on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HorrorMoviePodF13 Part Two - Month of Horrors: https://youtu.be/QWOGy6le7_Q
Yo Cellar Dwellers, we're here to give you that Big D, and we definitely give it to you bigly with this one! This fourth episode of our sophomore season has everything you've come to love and enjoy about the show: fan fic, Twitter shout outs, dropped calls, more of Dan's stupid ideas for new and ridiculous projects, and eventually we talk about one of these fantastic movies as well! With the whole fan vote side of things, we've really had to up our movie picks and that has been pretty great! There won't be any shit like Driven this season, and we're not disappointed to miss out on that kind of trash! Of course, through a sitcom level of miscommunication, we ended up watching different movies, so you kinda get a two for one in this episode, but only one film actually won the poll, and coming into this week all tied up, whichever movie wins will give the host who picked it the sole spot at the top of the movie picking mountain! Tune in for all the nonsense and laugh along with our bullshit! As always, the show is presented by gods of the show, our amazing friends in the #AlitaArmy!
So, believe it or not, some marketing company thought we'd be good to push a new Hitchcock Blu-ray collection, to that end they sent us some free copies of Psycho and asked us to tell you a little bit about the collection! Honestly, this collection sounds pretty fuckin cool! It includes four huge Hitchcock classics in 4K Ultra HD including Rear Window, Vertigo, The Birds and probably the coolest part, the original uncut version of Psycho that has NEVER been released before! Beyond that, it was just cool that they trusted us to push their product. Given that list of films, the only one we hadn't covered was The Birds, so that's what you get here! WE called in our major Hitchcock geek, Jack Thorne to both announce his return as King of #VHS4T1D and to tell us all kinds of super interesting stuff about the film from the cutting edge special effects techniques used in the film to the behind the scenes drama that kinda shows us the unfortunately gross side of Hitchcock. We discuss the genius and the humanness of Hitchcock, the brilliance of The Birds, from the amazing performances to the carefully calculated shots, lighting, colors, sound, and more! Oh, also, we give away copies of Psycho! Enjoy this pretty hefty, both in length and content, episode and consider buying that awesome Hitchcock collection because it looks pretty badass!
We're onto the C episode and for the first time we've really got some real variety in the picks this week. We've got the campy but epic 80s action fantasy film Conan the Barbarian starring a young and very muscled up Arnold. We've got the super low budget, totally indie, Kevin Smith career launching black and white comedy classic Clerks, and lastly we've got the SNL skit turned comedy film featuring everyone's favorite aliens with misshapen heads just trying to fit in, Coneheads! Which film won, and in what ways did Overlord Dan totally drop the ball and let everyone down?! Tune in to find out! Also we discuss hitting some huge milestones and there might even be a secret track with some details about an exciting new collaboration project coming next week! So much good stuff crammed into this one, check it out! As always, we are presented by Gods of the show, the #AlitaArmy!
In this #VHS4T1D episode, George has thrown down some cash to force us to watch a movie he wanted to watch, and where he normally wants to watch trash films, this time he went another route and decided to have us watch the incredibly heavy, powerful, classic war drama, The Deer Hunter. Chris was busy studying for his home inspection certification, so we had our good friend Jack Thorne join up with us, and of course he brought incredible knowledge, insight, and analysis to the conversation! We haven't bitten off something this heavy in quite awhile, not since the early days when we had absolutely no clue what we were doing, and maybe we still don't, but tune in to find out!If you want in on the fun and you're interested in helping the JDRF find a cure for Type One Diabetes, here are the awesome rewards for your donations (each includes the previous):$5: Mix CD (or tape)$10: + Shoutout$20: + You pick the movie$50: + You come on the show and get a copy of the film on VHS$100: + You are made Queen or King of the Series with your name attached to all #VHS4T1D episodes$1000: + You are the goddess or god of the show with your name attached to all Movie Cellar content! There ya go, and here is the current wall of fame:King of the Series: Zach WhittierGods of the show: The #AlitaArmyClick here to get involved!
Welcome back Cellar Dwellers to our second installment of our #UPickEm season! And today B is for buddy comedies! We're either going to do America with Beavis and Butthead, bowl with the Big Lebowski or travel through the Circuits of Time with Bill and Ted! And, since we're talking buddies, maybe we'll get back to the buddy trio of Indy, Rick and Short Round in our next installment of the Indyconda fan fic, and we might even have a call in from another buddy of ours, the one and only Trev! Despite being in the middle of a move, he calls in to tell us how he's doing and what he thinks of the movie you guys picked! And, as always we are presented by the amazing and generous gods of the show The #AlitaArmy!
He's back!!! Uncle Zach has taken his throne back, and returns in this very special #VHS4T1D episode as King of the Series!!! Not only is this one special because it is Zach's return to the throne, but also the first time since COVID required us to record remotely that we've actually had anyone in the Movie Cellar with Overlord Dan! Zach picked the phenomenal 1984 buddy cop Eddie Murphy classic, Beverly Hills Cop! We had a great time with this one and we're incredibly grateful to Zach and all of you who have donated and continue to support this campaign! Zach's message to his kingdom was simple, he is waiting for someone to take the throne from him, who will it be?! Maybe you!If you want in on the fun and you're interested in helping the JDRF find a cure for Type One Diabetes, here are the awesome rewards for your donations (each includes the previous):$5: Mix CD (or tape)$10: + Shoutout$20: + You pick the movie$50: + You come on the show and get a copy of the film on VHS$100: + You are made Queen or King of the Series with your name attached to all #VHS4T1D episodes$1000: + You are the goddess or god of the show with your name attached to all Movie Cellar content! There ya go, and here is the current wall of fame:King of the Series: Zach WhittierGods of the show: The #AlitaArmyClick here to get involved!
Here we go Cellar Dwellers, Season Two is off and running! We've been so pumped to get back to our regular season episodes and kick off a brand new round of VHS films! This season we are letting you guys make the picks! For our first go we put Alien, American Psycho and Anaconda out there for you guys to vote on. You guys picked... you have to listen to find out, duh! Also we might have an installment of Indyconda, maybe some Twitter Shoutouts and even a couple reviews! This is a very full season premiere, we had so much great stuff to get back to, and we jumped in with both feet, hope you enjoy!
Yo Cellar Dwellers, the summer of #VHS4T1D rolls on! With schedules and vacations being all wonky, we've gotta wait another week to start Season Two, but in the meantime, we have a great treat for you, more #VHS4T1D goodness! This one comes curtesy of one of Chris's professional friends who we decided might want her last name redacted for fear of any association with our stupid show! So, this episode is for Katrina, and she asked us to watch the 2006 Happy Madison production, Grandma's Boy! As usual, there was no group consensus on this film and lots of arguing and name calling ensued (some about the film, but mostly just because we love to give each other shit)! Huge thanks to Katrina, and all those who continue to donate to this incredibly important cause, finding a cure for Type One Diabetes! If you want in on the fun and you're interested in helping the JDRF find a cure for Type One Diabetes, here are the awesome rewards for your donations (each includes the previous):$5: Mix CD (or tape)$10: + Shoutout$20: + You pick the movie$50: + You come on the show and get a copy of the film on VHS$100: + You are made Queen or King of the Series with your name attached to all #VHS4T1D episodes$1000: + You are the goddess or god of the show with your name attached to all Movie Cellar content! There ya go, and here is the current wall of fame:King of the Series: Jack ThorneGods of the show: The #AlitaArmyClick here to get involved!
We have an awesome treat for all you Cellar Dwellers with this one! Today we're going from the Cellar to the Dungeon, and we're talking with a couple of the dudes from Dungeon Entertainment about their debut film, Valley of Carnage! Damian and Anthony call in to talk about tapes, SOV (shot on video) films, their passion for film making, and their amazing micro budget trash cinema SOV horror film! This is not an episode to be missed, Damian and Anthony are awesome dudes, they get into all the crazy behind the scenes work that went into this passion project and they listen to our stupid opinions about their labor of love! We're incredibly grateful to these guys for their donation and for sharing their film with us for a truly unique episode of The Movie Cellar. We are looking forward to having them come back when they wrap their next film, Death Hike, and maybe even bring along a couple more members of the crew!If you want in on the fun and you're interested in helping the JDRF find a cure for Type One Diabetes, here are the awesome rewards for your donations (each includes the previous):$5: Mix CD (or tape)$10: + Shoutout$20: + You pick the movie$50: + You come on the show and get a copy of the film on VHS$100: + You are made Queen or King of the Series with your name attached to all #VHS4T1D episodes$1000: + You are the goddess or god of the show with your name attached to all Movie Cellar content! There ya go, and here is the current wall of fame:King of the Series: Jack ThorneGods of the show: The #AlitaArmyClick here to get involved! You can find Dungeon Entertainment on Instagram at @dungeonentertainment
He's back! This episode is sponsored by none other than the Great Trev! Despite his threats about making us watch some weird shit, he actually made a fairly reasonable pick. Both Trev and Zach join us to discuss the 1995 organized crime action/drama Things to do in Denver When You're Dead. With an epic cast including Christopher Walken, Steve Buscemi, Christopher Lloyd and Fairuza Balk and led by Andy Garcia, Trev was hoping to expose us to some content from the 90s that kinda flew under the radar. Along with comparisons to Tarantino, and some extremely unfounded criticism from George, this episode does a deep dive into this fun, sometimes campy but engaging mafia film! Huge thanks to Trev for his donation and for this awesome pick!If you want in on the fun and you're interested in helping the JDRF find a cure for Type One Diabetes, here are the awesome rewards for your donations (each includes the previous):$5: Mix CD (or tape)$10: + Shoutout$20: + You pick the movie$50: + You come on the show and get a copy of the film on VHS$100: + You are made Queen or King of the Series with your name attached to all #VHS4T1D episodes$1000: + You are the goddess or god of the show with your name attached to all Movie Cellar content! There ya go, and here is the current wall of fame:King of the Series: Jack ThorneGods of the show: The #AlitaArmyClick here to get involved!Listen to Trev on The Movie Cellar Rewind or on his podcast, The Struggling Artist:@PodcastTSA (Twitter)Listen on Spotify
Huge thanks to our fantastic friends over at Drinkipedia for their donation to sponsor this episode, and for the super fun movie pick! In this installment of #VHS4T1D we watched the 2016 Irish coming of age feel good film Sing Street! With great music and great heart and a story that many teenagers, or former teenagers, with dreams of starting a band to impress a girl, can relate to, this was definitely a pleasant trip to Dublin and a much needed break from the insane and/or heavy films we've been covering! As a quick teaser, we'll also note that you might hear some "music" from a couple of our high school bands from back in the day! It was a great time and a fantastic trip down memory lane, even if Chris is a total pretentious jerk about his music, lol!If you want in on the fun and you're interested in helping the JDRF find a cure for Type One Diabetes, here are the awesome rewards for your donations (each includes the previous):$5: Mix CD (or tape)$10: + Shoutout$20: + You pick the movie$50: + You come on the show and get a copy of the film on VHS$100: + You are made Queen or King of the Series with your name attached to all #VHS4T1D episodes$1000: + You are the goddess or god of the show with your name attached to all Movie Cellar content! There ya go, and here is the current wall of fame:King of the Series: Jack ThorneGods of the show: The #AlitaArmyClick here to get involved!Drinkipedia:@DrinkipediaPod (Twitter)https://www.patreon.com/drinkipedia/posts
In this episode we're talking with Ron and Jessica from the I Think We're Doing It podcast. We discuss race and justice in America through the lens of the 2016 film, Fruitvale Station, based on the last day of Oscar Grant, a young man shot in the back by a police officer while he was detained and pinned down on the ground by another officer. This shooting happened in 2009, the officer who shot him was charged with manslaughter and served 11 months. Oscar Grant was taken away from his family, a mother who loved him deeply, his girlfriend and their beautiful daughter. He was only 22. These murders and the lack of consequences for those who commit them continues to this day. We are airing this episode in the wake of the George Floyd and Breonna Taylor murders. Breonna Taylor's killer is still free. George Floyd's murderer was only arrested after the ENTIRE WORLD demanded justice. We're incredibly grateful to Ron and Jessica for joining us. Please listen to this episode, watch this movie, and consider what you can do to help move toward change. Jessica recommended connecting with the Grassroots Law Project to stay informed on ways to get involved. We'll share a link to their organization below. Much love to all the Cellar Dwellers, we hope that this episode might spark some thought and conversation for you. #BlackLivesMatterGrassroots Law ProjectI Think We're Doing It PodcastTwitter: @itwdipodcastInstagram: @ithinkweredoingitpodcast
These are always super fun, when we get to sit down and talk with the latest King or Queen of the series! In this episode we're discussing another Hitchcock film (possibly the most represented director in the shows catalogue so far), but this time we're doing it with someone who actually knows some shit about Hitch (yeah, his real fans call him Hitch, get on board)! We're talking with our good friend Jack Thorne who is a passionate movie buff, he loves watching, researching and discussing films, and Hitchcock is one of his absolute favorite directors, so he asked us to talk about his favorite Hitchcock film: Rear Window, and we ended up having an awesome conversation! We even brought in the old king to hand over his crown and he graciously passed on the baton, but not without a promise to take it right back, so we might be airing another episode with our dude Zach in the near future!
I know what you're thinking, this is completely insane! And, I'd say you're not wrong, but at the end of the day, if you donate to help find a cure for Type One Diabetes WE WILL WATCH WHATEVER YOU WANT!!! and nothing proves that quite like this very special #VHS4T1D episode where we cover the epically popular late 90s aerobics workout video, Tae Bo Advanced, for the incredibly generous and wildly creative in her film picks, Ginger from Grand Rapidians Play Video Games! This is the third time that we've gotten a donation from this crew and we are so thankful for them! Honestly, this episode was a ton of fun! Listen in as Dan shares his newfound dedication to exercise and his misadventures in trying to acquire some fresh Tae Bo tapes! In this Rewind minisode, Ginger and Will from Grand Rapidians Play Video Games drop by to share their thoughts on The Love Witch! While they appreciate our handling of the movie, they offer a little more insight and some slightly different perspective on both the film and feminism. They Also point out some things about the film that we missed in our conversation. So, if you have listened to The Love Witch #VHS4T1D episode and felt like we missed some stuff, or maybe you just want to hear other people's perspectives on it (something we highly recommend) then give Ginger and Will ten minutes of your time to tell you what they loved and hated about the movie, and why Ginger picked this for her donation, and why maybe you should check it out too! We appreciate their involvement with the show, their friendship, and their generous donations to the campaign! They're great friends and awesome people!
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! Now you've done it Cellar Dwellers, you've let Beetlejuice free to terrorize the Deetz's and once he's free you can't control his antics! In this #VHS4T1D bonus episode we discuss the 1988 Tim Burton masterpiece in all it's glory! With a ridiculously epic cast including Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Alec Baldwin and Michael Keaton as the titular character, Betelgeuse, it's impossible not to love this Tim Burton and Danny Elfman signature spooky good time! We're joined by the fan favorite regular, Stephanie Louise and talk about everything from hamsters to the solar system! Huge thanks to the Kalenderians for their generous donation and this awesome pick!If you want in on the fun and you're interested in helping the JDRF find a cure for Type One Diabetes, here are the awesome rewards for your donations (each includes the previous):$5: Mix CD (or tape)$10: + Shoutout$20: + You pick the movie$50: + You come on the show and get a copy of the film on VHS$100: + You are made Queen or King of the Series with your name attached to all #VHS4T1D episodes$1000: + You are the goddess or god of the show with your name attached to all Movie Cellar content! There ya go, and here is the current wall of fame:King of the Series: Jack ThorneGods of the show: The #AlitaArmyClick here to get involved!
The #VHS4T1D marathon rolls on! This episode was sponsored by our good friend Ginger from the Grand Rapidians Play Video Games podcast, and she asked us to watch The Love Witch, a film made in 2016, but capturing the magic of 60s camp cinema, a feminist horror comedy about a witch who uses her feminine magic to make men fall in love with her but then leaves them to go insane and die when they prove too weak and pathetic for her! We struggle through a surely uninformed and embarrassing conversation about feminism, but we try! George teaches us all about Wiccan, Dan teaches us all about Seinfeld, and Chris gets bored and mutes his phone! Everything except an explanation of the tiers, which we promised in the description, so here ya go (each includes the previous):$5: Mix CD (or tape)$10: + Shoutout$20: + You pick the movie$50: + You come on the show and get a copy of the film on VHS$100: + You are made Queen or King of the Series with your name attached to all #VHS4T1D episodes$1000: + You are the goddess or god of the show with your name attached to all Movie Cellar content! There ya go, and here is the current wall of fame:King of the Series: Jack ThorneGods of the show: The #AlitaArmyClick here to get involved!
The #VHS4T1D marathon rolls on! This episode was sponsored by Chuck and he asked us to watch Galaxy Quest, the 1999 sci-fi comedy starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tony Shalhoub. We're joined by the always lovely Stephanie Louise, and even have a pop-in visit from the star of the show herself, Little Miss Lillian! George gets mad at Dan, Dan gets mad at Stephanie, phones cut out, blood sugars drop, this one has everything! Everything except an explanation of the tiers, which we promised in the description, so here ya go (each includes the previous): $5: Mix CD (or tape)$10: + Shoutout $20: + You pick the movie $50: + You come on the show and get a copy of the film on VHS$100: + You are made Queen or King of the Series with your name attached to all #VHS4T1D episodes$1000: + You are the goddess or god of the show with your name attached to all Movie Cellar content! There ya go, and here is the current wall of fame:King of the Series: Jack ThorneGods of the show: The #AlitaArmyClick here to get involved!
So this is a unique installment of the #VHS4T1D series. In this episode Dan sits down with Stephanie and Lily and Danny to talk about a movie that Lily picked out! Our good friend, Linda donated to the campaign but said she didn't care what movie we did. When we pressed her to make a choice she said we could do whatever movie Lily wanted. When she said that, the assumption we had was that we'd do a fun family movie, but Lily had other plans! She wanted to watch the 2018 film The Hate U Give, a film about race, identity, protesting and police violence and how it impacts the youth. So, while we were nervous to discuss this film for fear of misspeaking or saying something totally off base, we decided it was the right call, since these are the discussions that are happening at home and it was important to Lily to have this discussion on the show. If you listen to this episode (or any of our content) and hear anything totally off the mark, please feel free to email or message us, and let us know so we can learn and do better. We highly recommend this film to start these discussions with your teens and tweens and learn together.King of the Series: Jack ThorneGods of the Show: The #AlitaArmyClick here to help find a cure for Type One Diabetes!
Well, Cellar Dwellers, this is what #VHS4T1D is all about, seeing what lengths we are willing to go to for your donations to the JDRF, and I think with this episode we're really proving that we're willing to go the distance! In this episode we review the wildly popular, extremely melodramatic teen vampire romance Twilight! So, whether you are Team Edward or Team Jacob, I'm sure if you are a fan of this film you will not be Team Movie Cellar! Huge thanks to Mandy for her donation, and for making this fantastically ridiculous pick for us, hopefully you enjoy our torture! Also, huge thanks to Stephanie for coming in to record with us as our Twilight expert, we couldn't have done this one without you!King of the Series: Jack ThorneGods of the Show: The #AlitaArmyClick here to get involved!
The marathon continues boys and girls! Today we have a weird combo of The Village meets Strange Brew meets Saturday Night Fever with the 1989 absolute flop The Experts! This film directed by Dave Thomas (of Strange Brew fame, not the Wendy's guy!) and starring John Travolta is about a couple dudes who go to start a nightclub in Nebraska and end up in the middle of Russia! Whacky nonsense ensues as our heroes make new friends and spread 80s hip culture in their new home town! Sorry, got a little carried away trying to sell it there! Anyway, huge thanks to Jonathan for his donation and patience as we got to his pick! Glad to know that Dave Thomas did some other work, albeit lackluster work, but it's out there! Also, we announce our new King of the Series, our buddy Jack Thorne! You may remember him as the sponsor of our Dead Man episode, he's back for more and now with his $100 donation becomes King of the Series and will get to come on soon to give you guys some legit film analysis, we can't wait! Also, huge thanks to Kranberri Jam for donating her time and creating the amazing new Alita inspired art, Lily absolutely loves it and so do we! So many awesome things happening around #VHS4T1D, and we're so goddamn grateful to all of you!Click here to get involved.
We're back with another #VHS4T1D episode, and this one is for Overlord Dan's boss (hopefully he doesn't get himself fired)! Peter requested that we watch the painfully realistic 1999 Office Space, so grab your Red Swingline stapler, fill out your TPS reports, throw on some flair and let's do this! Huge thanks to Peter for his generous donation and for such a great pick!King of the Series: Big ZachGods of the Show: The #AlitaArmyClick here if you want to help find a cure for Type One Diabetes!
It's time to start the #VHS4T1D marathon! We are hoping to drop two of these on you guys each week, and we're gonna try our best to make that happen! In this first installment of the marathon we discuss the film Dead Man starring Johnny Depp, and Gary Farmer with all kinds of other fun faces popping up throughout! Our good friend and supporter of the show, Jack Thorne requested that we watch a Jim Jarmusch film, and this was the one we picked! It's a western, kinda, but it's so much more! Check out the episode to hear us try to walk our way through this wild and weird and incredibly unique film! Huge thanks to Jack for the pick and for his generous donation!Your reigning King of the Series: Big ZachYour reigning Gods of the Show: The #AlitaArmyYou can get in on the fun by checking out our JDRF campaign page!
Well, here it is Cellar Dwellers, the culmination of an entire season! With this episode we put a bow on Season One, with special guests, giveaways, shoutouts, and more! We look back over the previous year, discuss the highs and the lows, the great films and terrible films that we covered, and how a dumb idea for three friends to talk about movies on VHS has turned into such an amazing community of contributors and friends! We are so incredibly thankful to all of you that have listened and continue to listen every week, and to those that have guest hosted for us or left us a voicemail or shot us a message or review! To everyone that has shared about us on social media or thrown one of our stickers on your laptop, thank you! And to everyone who has very generously given to the JDRF through our #VHS4T1D campaign, a huge thanks to you! Well, with this 3 hour mega episode we call it a season, we look forward to what's next and we do it in the only way we know how, by yelling over each other and going on about total nonsense, and maybe, hopefully, make you laugh and smile along with us like you're also right in The Movie Cellar talking about the great (and terrible) movies, formatted to fit your tv, recorded and distributed for home use on the asolutely epic and game changing medium that was and is VHS! As always we are proudly presented by our great friends in the #AlitaArmy!
