This is a great premise for exploring human longing, connection, and isolation, especially from a Queer perspective. The couriers, conscripted into their jobs, mistrusted by society, and living on the fringes, have their own troubles and mysteries to deal with over the course of the story. But The Night Post occasionally has them read the letters they carry, which are often insights into the troubles, struggles, and desires of everyone. There is a mystery to solve, but there is also human emotion and love.
I LOVE this podcast. It's so mysterious and spooky and gay <3
This podcast is INCREDIBLE. I'm not great about keeping up with podcasts lately, but these are the perfect length, and they always leave me wanting more. Emotional enough that it's made me cry, laugh, and just be freaked out.Seriously, it only took two episodes to have me hooked.
The Night PostThank you so much! That means a lot to hear, and we're really glad you're enjoying it. 💌
This podcast keeps getting better - even from its already brilliant 1st season. The season 1 finale was my episode of the year and this season is building up to a great finale as well. Someone else in the reviews mentioned Ray Bradbury and I can completely see this comparison - the mix of the supernatural with the very real human emotions is definitely Bradbury-esque.The writing, acting and sound quality is all top-notch and the story is really compelling.
The Night Post is one of those shows which grabs you and doesn't let go. The world is expansive and strange whilst still feeling somehow familiar. Or maybe more accurately genuine. This to me is because of the characters who we see the world through. For all the beautiful sound design and intriguing plotting it is those characters who stay with me and draw me back. I can't wait to see where they go next.
Very well written with great world-building. Hypnotic and expertly delivered (no pun intended!)
Mysterious, hypnotic, and irresistible. This is a masterful audio fiction podcast that plays with your mind as expertly as it does all of its pieces. A must listen!
I'm not that far into The Night Post, but already I'm in love, I'm hooked. The sense of mystery and ambience is second to none and I can't wait to find out more about the pigeons and Gilt City.Would recommend this to anyone who likes mystery, intrigue, or immersive and engaging atmospheric storytelling!
This podcast feels like coming home, but to a home with something lurking within that you can't see, but you know it's there. The character interactions are delightful, with that sweet, sweet hint of found family, but the suspense is still enough to constantly keep you wondering. I can't wait to see where this lovely show goes!
A wonderfully spooky and character driven story. I love Val, Clementine and Milo so much, and I can't wait to find out what actually lurks in Gilt City. Hooked from the start!
With a film noir flavor and a touch of Ray Bradbury, this suspenseful paranormal audio drama will mesmerize you. This show builds suspense well, adds new layers to the mystery with every episode, and provides a nice cliffhanger at the end of each chapter to keep you coming back for more.
The Night Post is an intriguing audio fiction following the adventures of couriers who don't know who to trust as they navigate the mysteries of Gilt City. Really enjoying this show and it's definitely a great one to check out!
This is the kind of podcast best enjoyed late at night with the lights off. The sound production is great and the voice acting strong, but what grabbed me here is the actors are able to pull off the idea they are heading into the unknown with the viewer, and that's hard to do. The first episode works well through a great device - a letter to an old flame. I don't want to give too much away, but as you listen you can feel that loneliness and yearning. I'm listening to more tonight with the lights off and in the dark. Give the Night Post a listen, you won't be sorry.
Writing: B+/A-Voice Acting: C+/B-Production: BSound Creativity:C+"More than kisses, letters mingle souls." - John DonneThe city of Gilt is what we expect from large cities: crowded with people from all strata of society. They feel relatively safe crowded together and they look down on those who live and serve those outside of the city. One such service is the night postman. Since the night postmen are exposed to "who knows what" at night, the night postmen are shunned by most of society. Therefore, it's a lifetime position that is passed on at the postman's death to someone close to them by the government. Our story is about three night postmen who became nightpostmen through no fault of their own. However, their experiences are just a little too weird - even for night postmen and the question is why.......I found this to be an intriguing story with well written dialog. The voice acting, however, is uneven which detracts from the story a bit. It feels like the voice actors are doing their best but they haven't quite mastered it yet. However, they are very likable which is why I kept listening. I found myself cheering them on as they got better over time. Though there isn't much creativity with sound, it is a solid production. However. It's the story that kept me going through season one which tied things up nicely at the end. It's worth a listen to see if you are intrigued by the story as I was. Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, criticize. I am in the latter category and deserve the ignominy of a critic but at least I share .....😏
My first monologue-like audio drama and boy does it not disappoint! Each episode spins a mysterious little treat in the form of letters that the main characters are delivering all the while they're solving their own little mystery of the disappearance of a friend. My mind is constantly trying to learn more about this interesting world and I'm excited to see what Season 2 brings.
The premise of Supernatural Mailmen is fun. The short story/letter segments are descriptive and well-written. I love how willing the main female characters are to Do Crime, but in different ways. The theme of the importance of a message is delivered well. Some of the acting is unnaturally stilted and uneven; I usually like how the person playing Val delivers lines and the other actors are sometimes good, but other times it's pretty clear they're reading from a script, which is fine when the characters are literally reading letters, but is a detriment in more emotional scenes. I only listened through the first season, so maybe this improves later.
The Night Post is a recent addition to my listening roster and I'm already fully in love with it. The way this show discusses grief and longing and connection is masterful and brilliant! I'm excited to see what else Gilt City and the Night Post have in store as I get caught up!
It took me far too long to start listening to The Night Post, but I love it so much!! The small team share the writing on the show which leads to a subtle but delicious variety between the episodes. I find the show strangely comforting - there’s spooky stuff going on, but it seems to make the humanity and love shine through even stronger. The voice acting is great and my god, I am ROOTING for these characters. I really am.
The Night Post is a sprawling podcast. It feels so large, and yet so intimate. Perhaps that intimacy is baked into the premise of reading someone else's letters. I love the setting "Gilt City" and the entire premise and justification for the couriers is incredibly unique. The show knows exactly what it is and delivers, in a wonderful way, on that initial promise, and never wavers from that identity which makes it so unique.
