It's July 1942. World War II is raging across Europe. In Cornwall, the Morlington Martyrs have been sacrificing all kinds of wild animals on the “Old Men of Morlington” stone circle. Inspector Sixpence has been intrigued to find a number of keys on recently murdered corpses, all bearing ancient transcriptions that predict the end of the world.
For months now, the “weeping wailing woman of Belching” has been seen walking the clifftops above Dead Man’s Bay, but Sergeant Knibblett has been haunted by a different ghost, that of a man.…
