Happy Black History Month! We explore some of the historical reasons why Austin’s African American community has been shrinking as the rest of the city grows, and we learn about ways to support our African American neighbors and friends. Plus, we embarrass ourselves trying to answer questions from the citizenship test and shake our heads at all the ways sex ed let us down.

CORRECTION
In this episode, our guest stated that the author of "Grapes of Wrath," John Steinbeck, placed a deed restriction on his property preventing people of color from owning it. A listener contacted us to say she could find no evidence of this, and we also have not been able to verify this claim and our guest also could not locate the original source. However, he did provide this information: "The data also showed disparities in two rural Northern California communities: in Chico, when Latinos did apply for such loans, they were nearly 2.5 times more likely than whites to be denied. In Salinas, they were 1.7 times more likely to be denied. The analysis compared applicants with similar incomes, loan amounts and purchasing neighborhood, among other factors" (US News).
