Jessie J was born Jessica Ellen Cornish in Essex, England. As a child, she was diagnosed with a rare heart condition. She loved to sing, dance, and act, and at age 11 was cast in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Whistle Down The Wind. At age 15, Jessica performed on the show Britain's Brilliant Prodigies, at age 17, she joined a girl group called Soul Deep, and soon after signed a record deal and a publishing deal. She spent years working on an album -- while writing hit songs for other artists like Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus -- including "Party In The U.S.A." In 2011, her debut album, Who You Are, catapulted her to the top of the UK charts with hits like, "Do It Like A Dude," "Price Tag," and "Domino." But despite the millions of albums sold, the red carpet photo ops, and all the accolades, Jessie J doesn't see herself as a pop star -- in fact she doesn't like her name very much.
