197: Summer Fridays with Guest Expert Amy Cannatta & Relentless Resilience
Dr. Amy Cannatta is a chiropractor, single mom-preneur, business mentor and farm girl at heart.  Two years ago, family tragedy struck and her four and half year old nephew who lived with her, died suddenly in his sleep and that is when her perspective on life changed forever. At that moment in time, she was hit with the realization that she wasn't doing enough to help make the world (and other people's lives) better on a larger scale beyond the 4 walls of her successful chiropractic office.  She already had some success. In 2002, she left a domestic violence situation with 7 trash bags full of stuff with her daughters who were then five and three years old while in the middle of a doctoral program. She went on to graduate with honors, start her own practice, and learn a lot along the way about resilience, building a business, and juggling life as a single mom and entrepreneurship. But her story doesn’t end there.  So 2 years ago after her nephew passed away, she decided to enter the online coaching world so that she could teach women globally what she had learned about life and business, leading to a ripple effect. Since starting her coaching business, she has published a #1 Amazon best seller titled, Pursepective: From Ruin to Resilience, is now a writer for The Huffington Post, replaced her income as a chiropractor, and teach women all over the world how they can do the same by prioritizing their purpose and developing a relentlessly resilient mindset (with some business strategy sprinkled in).  Amy knows that the root of success lies in a relentlessly resilient mindset, hard work, and at times, having to creatively shift your perspective. By doing these things, the outcomes can be massive and change the trajectory of a human beings path in life. On this episode, Amy and I discuss: Developing relentless resilience: how and why an unbreakable mindset separates you from the pack Why you aren't where you want to be - (You're probably asking yourself the wrong questions) Why do we think that it's not ok or that we are ABNORMAL if we want to make a big impact. 82: Emailing Ain't Always Easy - Email Ideas to Boost Your Sales
Emailing ain't always easy!  Sort of a love/hate relationship in my opinion.  But the truth is, emailing your list is THE BEST way to consistently connect with your people.  And if you want to sell them something, it's essential.  But what to say? How to say it? And how to do it without flat out ANNOYING them...that's the key.  Every email during your launch needs a purpose - and you really do want to send as many as possible (without them hitting unsubscribe of course).  I've laid out 9 different emails you need to send to your list during a launch - and each has a real purpose! (plus examples from my own launch). We're covering 4 of them on today's episode, and you can get the rest here: www.adriennedorison.com/9emails Join my free FB community to connect & get your questions answered: Society of Self-Mastery

149: Why I Stood Up Oprah {& what it has to do with you}
I stood up Oprah this weekend. About a month or so ago, my girl, Marie Forleo, shared that she'd be speaking at Oprah's Super Soul Sunday in LA and they were selling tickets to attend. I thought it would be super cool and inspiring to be in the room with Oprah, Marie, and some other incredible humans. So, I bought the ticket. Booked the flight {in and out within 36 hours to LA}. Then I had the most incredibly inspiring {yet, exhausting} weekend in Vegas last weekend, a red-eye flight home and over 30 hours of just client calls and meetings, workshops, etc this week. Plus...I hadn't had any real quality alone time with Tyler in two weeks because of travel. I canceled. I lost some money. I decided that if I went, yes I would be inspired, but would it align with my goals? Move my business forward? Ehh, maybe. {But probably not - no offense Oprah!} Not really aligned with what I'm working on...And I still have tons of stuff to implement from last weekend, so I don't need more of that if I'm being honest with myself. The part of my business that needed me the most this weekend was the part that takes time away. My fiancé needed more than my business needed me this weekend. My fiancé and pups wanted to spend time with me more than Oprah did {the cold hard truth}. And while saying no was really hard and sure I got FOMO probably 66 times today...I had an incredible, and much needed day with my man {and pups}. Which I guarantee will allow me to pour into my business and into my clients next week way more than sitting in the same room as Oprah will. {maybe?} I knew taking the red-eye home tonight -- I'd be on a plane at this very moment - would mean another week where I just tried to play catch up the entire time. Not cute for me. Sometimes the thing your business needs is not more inspiration, not more business, but rather MORE LIFE. Your business needs you to have a life. That's where creativity lives. That's where ideas emerge. That's where you create the internal freedom. When you're making decisions for YOUR business - ask if it's aligned with your goals, if it's not, it's a no ☺🙌🏻 So, today I stood up Oprah, but I don't think she missed me. When thinking about my whole "permission to hustle" concept -- this is actually the EPITOME of hustling in my mind. Yes, not going to this event was hustling.How, you ask? Because it had nothing to do with my goals.I don't want you to hustle for the sake of it, or work non-stop! I want you to get smart and strategic about what you need to be focused on and hustle on that! That's where permission to hustle comes in. This isn't about burning out, it's about taking ambition and turning it into action unapologetically, but only when it aligns with the results you want to create.Oprah didn't align for me this weekend. Get access to the FREE Permission to Hustle mini course here! And make sure to protect your business with this FREE LEGAL.
65: Becky Straw & How To Do Meaningful Work That Impacts The World
Becky Straw is the Co-Founder and Chief Adventurist for The Adventure Project, a new nonprofit “adding venture” capital to support entrepreneurs in developing countries. Her and her co-founder were inspired by a passion to revolutionize giving, and create a movement to marry good intentions with measurable impact. Becky was 29-years-old when they launched. In their first four years, The Adventure Project has engaged 6,000 Americans to help create 894 jobs in India, Kenya, Uganda and Haiti. Those entrepreneurs will go on to serve over one million people to better health care, food and water. Their goal is to create one million jobs in the next ten years.  Prior to The Adventure Project, Becky spent three years helping to launch the nonprofit, charity: water and graduated from Columbia University with a Master’s in International Social Welfare. Becky is also the recipient of this years Diane von Furstenberg People’s Voice Award for female founders making a difference.    In this episode Becky shares: - how to launch a nonprofit with $4,000  - why to jump in w/ faith when dealing with obstacles/rejection  - how to ask for help  - how to fundraise from grassroots supporters - how / why she decided to start a nonprofit focused on jobs  - how to be sure you are creating impactful change in the world - why jobs are critical to ending extreme poverty World Food Day is today - Friday, October 16th - we're asking for supporters to specifically support farmers, with a $5,000 matching gift challenge!  Did you know most farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa don’t grow enough to feed their families? I know, it’s crazy. But, when they are able to buy an irrigation pump, everything changes.  One irrigation pump can lift a farmer and his family out of poverty and into the middle class in only one harvest. On average, each farmer grows enough to sell produce to 77 community members, and earns enough to send one child to school for the first time.   We're joining forces with The Adventure Project to raise money to support farmers in developing countries. You can make a contribution here -- anything helps! www.adriennedorison.com/adventureproject

198: Excuses Don't Solve Problems
Are You Making Excuses or Solving Problems? Excuses don’t solve problems. I am from a mindset of continuous improvement -- how can we constantly be doing better? Not making excuses for why we can't get to where we want to go.  When looking at your own business and mindset in general, are you holding yourself back by making excuses or are you getting creative and resourceful enough to find a new way to do things? To solve the problem.  Challenges are a part of life, they are a part of business...but it's how you respond to them that determines how successful you will become. They're there to teach us something, to require more of us, and to separate the weak from the strong {and resourceful}.  So instead of wasting time on excuses, you can choose to spend time solving the problem. It's all about how you THINK about it.  No one succeeds by complaining. No one succeeds by making excuses. The best succeed by using their energy to solve their problems.
175: Jessi Honard & Your Copywriting Character
Jessi Honard is a self-proclaimed word nerd and serial entrepreneur with a passion for helping entrepreneurs take ownership of their stories. Always a writer, she graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in English after just two and a half years. At the age of 21, she took a job teaching high school English and went on to earn her Masters in Education. In 2010, burnt out from the constant demands of public education, she took her love of writing and teaching into the world of entrepreneurship. Since then, she has written extensive copy for major universities and non-profit organizations, as well as highly motivated, strategic solopreneurs. A firm believer in the power of words, Jessi developed the Copywriting Character quiz as a new way of building quality connections through writing. The quiz gives entrepreneurs the tools they need to lay the foundation of their own writing and, as a result, grow their business on a more profound and long-lasting level.  Today we're going to discuss:   The importance of building a quality audience over playing a numbers game (100 raving fans is much better than 1,000 subscribers who are ‘meh’), and doing so through consistency in your voice & style across platforms (something the Copy Character quiz helps with). The biggest user error: Spending thousands of dollars on branding/web design and not following through with your day-to-day copy. Spending far too much time focusing on the ideal client avatar (to obsessive detail) instead of honing your positioning and the benefits you offer. 188: Manny Wolfe & How To Become a More Interesting Speaker
Want to become a better speaker?  Truth is...sometimes people are just plain boring...monotone...uninteresting.  Why is that?  And can it be a learned skill that you actually improve?  YES! Today's guest, Manny Wolfe, is going to share exactly how to improve your vocal tonality and become a better speaker, so that YOU can impact more people.  Born in a hippy commune in Berkeley, California, during the notorious ‘Summer of Love’, Emmanuel Wolfe’s childhood, was marked by violence, brainwashing, drug abuse, and worst of all, no guidance. Drifting from place to place and job to job, unable to settle, living a life steadily becoming utterly out of control, he ended up a hopeless, homeless deadbeat, addicted to drink and drugs, on a dizzying downward spiral, smashing down to rock bottom. Emmanuel Wolfe was able to turn his life around. Now he works with people all over the world who want to transform their lives through communication mastery, mindset mastery and internal transformation. His story is nothing less than a testament to what we can achieve when we never give up belief in ourselves and our ability to create our reality. 192: Do You Have Style or Substance? Keeping the Main Thing, the Main Thing.
You need to keep the main thing, the main thing. So often I see entrepreneurs getting fancy with their style, before they focus on their substance.  We often use style to distract others from the main thing {our substance} or get distracted by others sharing fancy websites, photoshoots in Paris, and mouth watering copy selling their latest shiny thing.  But what if you focused on the main thing first? The substance. The real valuable content and expertise that you have. What if you sharpened that skill set a bit more each day instead of fiddling with your canva images?  What if you qualified the humans you hire based on THEIR substance instead of their new car or beautiful dress...seen with Eiffel Tower in background of course? What if you judged their goods based on the value and not *just* the shiny website?  Wouldn't we all be better off?  What are you focused on? Style or Substance? I want you to commit to substance, and in this episode, I'll share 4 ways you can start sharpening that substance skill set right now.  Don't get me wrong, style is still important. But, your style should SERVE your substance, not distract from it.  Too much to do and not enough hours in the day to get the big results you want? What if I told you you were focused on doing the WRONG things? Take this quiz to find out exactly what you need to be doing in your business to profit more in the next 30 days.
