I love this podcast! But I would, since I'm the creator and host. I'm biased.
The Science of Birds is so rich with content I often listen to episodes twice. It’s a great complement to all the bird guides and bird apps, because it puts birds in the larger ecological context and dives deep into narrower topics.
All I know is that National Geographic and/or the Department of Education should reach out to the host of this podcast to create Science programs for our communities. Ivan Phillipsen's carefully curated content is delivered with clarity, humor, charm, and brevity. Bill Nye the Science guy? Ivan the Aves guy. 😄
What a wealth of information is provided in this podcast. It is educational in an accessible, fun, funny, and interesting way! I so appreciate and enjoy this podcast.
I absolutely LOVE listening to this podcast! I'm totally new to birding and I find myself listening to these episodes on repeat as they're just packed with awesome information and fun facts. I've learnt so much already and really look forward to new episodes!
I listen on Amazon music just for your information. My father instilled a love of birds in my sister and I. He passed October 2019 and our love is grown tremendously.... it's our connection to him forever. He would love this podcast!!! Yes, its science but in a guided tour kind of way. Ivan is knowledgeable but never condescending, inserts perfectly timed humor to break up larger bits of info for easier digestion and is amazingly intuitive. Many times when I listen he'll state a fact and I'll be thinking but wait.... why?... how??? And in his next sentence he'll say "I know what your thinking?" And answer my exact thought. What ever your level of interest is in birds or even nature give Ivan a try!!!
This podcast is beyond awesome!!! As a bird enthusiast, it is exactly what I’ve been looking for. However, I do think EVERYBODY should listen to it and would love to see this podcast reach more and more people. One can treat it as fun facts about birds, something to listen to while on a run; or, like me and some others, as short lessons where you sit down, focus, and listen to an episode multiple times to learn new things about birds. Either way, it’s guaranteed to be amusing, funny, AND educational. It will sure inspire you to love the natural world. Ivan’s enthusiasm is infectious! He is also an amazing host. I appreciate the way he makes complex concepts so easy to understand, and the light-hearted humor makes them easy to remember, too. I am thankful Ivan has decided to go ahead with producing this podcast, and hope he’ll have time to continue with it into the future. Some people depend on it!
Extremely informative, yet accessible.
This is a fantastic podcast. I have listened to every episode. They're full of facts, real published scientific information. My favorite part are the bird song sound clips, I love being introduced to other birds from around the world. Ivan's voice is incredibly soothing and I've more than once laughed out loud at work.
I listen to The Science of Birds on Spotify. Ivan is a wonderful source of interesting information relayed with great clarity and a good sense of fun. He also has a good "radio voice" making him a pleasure to listen to. Every episode teaches something new and interesting, and I often find myself smiling at his goofy sense of humour that is lightly sprinkled throughout his shows. Great job, Ivan. Thanks for sharing your love of birds!
What's not to love about this podcast. It's informative, and he really loves science!!
Excellent info, delivered amusingly with impeccable timing and guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. Sincerely hope Ivan continues with this valuable resource for beginning birders as well as those at all skill levels.
Listened to 4 episodes. Worth a try. Not over my head and not boring. Been looking for bird knowledge for awhile so I recommend at least a try. Good for kids too. For the love of birds...
An amazing podcast! Not only full of facts, but also giving perspective - and very entertaining.
This is the right podcast for lifelong learners with a knack for science. The podcast is much more than a podcast for bird watchers. If you have an interest in biology, ecology, or ornithology and want to learn in a serious yet accessible way, this is the podcast for you. Ivan makes a great job hosting the show.Personally, TSOB is my podcast companion for early jogging and I always get the feeling that besides exercising I got something interesting to take away intellectually.Having an interest in evolutionary biology, I really appreciate the chapters where Ivan takes that perspective on his analysis.
Compelling, informative, and fun. Ivan is the best. After hearing podcast #44 on coffee and birds, I found certified bird-friendly beans at the Peets near me. If you're interested...Organic, Yosemite Dos Sierras. Looking forward to more of your engaging podcasts.
Love the Science of Birds! I work with headphones in most days and this informative but entertaining podcast keeps me going. My mother recently laid a pretty corny joke on me I thought was fitting for this topic. Why do birds sing in the morning?Because they don't have to go to work!
I'm an aspiring Ornithologist and this podcast has made me learn lots! I love and look forward to listening to every episode
Ivan's vast knowledge presented in his trademark lighthearted manner makes each episode fly past!
The podcast is very educational and Ivan makes it fun! I’ve listened to them all and am now going through them again.
