Here’s a first – I’m about to give a 5 star review for possibly all the wrong reasons. Before you send in pitchforks, let me explain. I love listening to The Sleep Pod – but not for the purpose it’s probably intended for. It’s intended, of course, to put you in a relaxing mood…and it 100% does this expertly. With Jame’s dulcet tones and an ambience that’s softer than a whisper from a mouse, I can imagine falling asleep to this Podcast quite easily. And based on that criteria, it is 5 stars all the way.But I don’t listen for that. I listen because it’s meandering, eccentric, irrational nonsense tickles me in places that’s hard to reach. Even the four-digit numbering system of its Episodes (0001 / 0002 / 0003 etc), suggesting a back catalogue of potentially 9999 Episodes – WHY that makes me laugh? I don’t know! In short, it’s funny. Intentionally, or unintentionally (and I really can’t work out which) I find myself listening intently. For fooling me in this fashion, and for making me laugh out loud in places where I shouldn’t – it’s 5 stars. You’ve heard the phrase “Beauty is in the eye of The Beholder” right? Well, Podcasts are in the Ears of the Listener, and The Sleep Pod is a fantastic, multifaceted example. I can’t fault it, it’s perfect.
