This week Meg and Julian go sans guest for a deeper dive into the magic of Summer! The smells, the food, the new boobs and the old hits, Summer is boss when it comes to the good old days. Meg also recounts the horror of her recent bout with BPPV (vertigo), a harrowing and cautionary tale that will leave you spinning (but hopefully not her).
The Soft Spot welcomes back our good pal, comedian Sean O’Connor. He has written for  The Late Late Show, Hilarity for Charity with Seth Rogen, and has his own half hour special on Comedy Central. Sean is Julian’s best friend, Meg is Julian’s lady love, and they have 2 soft spots in common: the pop punk/emo sounds of the early aughts... and trolling Julian. Come have a listen as these two millennials trash talk Old Man McCullough (a guy who regularly listens to Steve Winwood, I mean, COME ON.) Let’s get ready to rumble!
Get your Jansport backpack with your initials embroidered on it, tease your bangs within an inch of their lives, and throw on your hip huggers because The Soft Spot is taking you back to school.Meg and Julian discuss memorable teachers, regrettable style choices (oh hey appliqué!) and of course, boners. Hurry up, it’s the bell!
This week we welcomed James Kennedy of Vanderpump Rules! We chat about the history of reality television, getting in the artistic zone, and how spending time in Ibiza shaped him as a DJ and informed his musical taste. James also tells us about his new podcast “It’s Not About the Podcast” on Starburns Audio! It’s a must listen as James is an absolute riot and also genuine a champion of creativity of all kinds. Check it out, it’s fucking lit, babe!
This week rad dude and hilarious comedian Andrew Michaan comes to the show to talk about his soft spot for the show Seinfeld. This is one of our favorite episodes, enjoy!
This week we are joined by our bud, actor and comedian Jon Rudnitsky (@jonrudnitsky) to talk about all the memories that ‘Now That’s What I Call Music’ (volumes 1-5) conjure up for him. Britney! Boy bands! Spice Girls! We chat about (and jam to) some of the hottest bangers from the the early aughts
From cat-eye clad 90’s dream to lullaby crooning queen, Grammy award winning artist Lisa Loeb has proven that she is a melody making force of nature. Today we are joined by special co-host Jackie J. (Lisa Loeb super fan and host of Natch Beaut) to sit down with Lisa and chat with her about her prolific career and a few of her own Soft Spots. OH AND SHE PLAYS A SONG FOR US LIVE, NBD.
Julian and Meg are in the tiny percentage of people who know absolutely nothing of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This week we sat down with comedian Lisa Chanoux, and she gave the Muggles of the Soft Spot a proper lesson in wizardry. Lisa knows a thing or two about wizardry herself, as she is one of the hosts of popular astrology podcast “What’s Your Sign?”. The three of us chat about the books versus the movies, growing up with Harry, and the political undertones and deeper meanings of the books.
Meg and Julian welcome precious lil gem Esther Povitsky, who takes us all back to a simpler time (the early 2000’s) and a simpler place (Skokie Illinois). That’s right, Esther’s Soft Spot is her hometown! The “World’s Largest Village” and proud headquarters of famed Mediterranean mall fast food institution Pita Inn, Skokie will always hold a special place in Esther’s heart. And this episode will hold a special one in yours. Enjoy!
This week we welcome back Soft Spot favorite, comedian and actress Merrill Davis. Merrill proudly presents us with her “Softest Spot”... Stevie Nicks! We talk about her regal style, her one of a kind voice, her lyrical genius, her love for her male bandmates... and cocaine! This week we dug a bit deeper and Merrill got beautifully vulnerable about how listening to Stevie Nicks helped her cope with darker, more turbulent times in her life. If anyone has the power to make you feel like an independent bad bitch who can power thru anything, it is definitely Steve Nicks.  We also all take turns talking about our dream day with the witchy desert queen and we debate the coke in the butt rumors. It’s a fantastic episode, so grab your finest shawl and dance on over to the Soft Spot, baby!
This week we welcome hilarious stand up and rugged Canadian Jon Dore (Comedy Centrals “Big Questions, Huge Answers”) to tell us about his favorite band, the Tragically Hip. Not only does Jon recount some amazing  memories connected to their songs, he also proves that sometimes we should meet our heroes. Also! Meg and Julian tell the tale of how they met.
This week we were joined by one of our favorite New York transplants, comedian Thomas Dale! Before we got down to serious Soft Spot biz, we chatted about mental and physical health, Thomas’s ‘Creep Cam’ being the BEST thing on the internet, and we even touched on the esoteric! We gush over the hunks of the early aughts and why Thomas loves straight boys, which brought us to Thomas’s Soft Spot- teen rom coms of the late 90’s and early 2000s! Thomas had us in tears and Meg laughed so hard she felt like she had completed PX90 by the time this ep was over!
This week we welcomed our pal, actor and comedian, Matt Braunger to the Soft Spot! Matt and Julian share a common Soft Spot, and most likely with many of you, our dear listeners, as well- Yacht Rock, baby! We dive right in and discuss the ins and outs of what Yacht Rock is (Yacht or Nyacht!), the most well known and high scoring on the Yachtski scale, the parallels between Michael McDonald and Anita Baker’s vocal stylings, and the sickest burn ever delivered onstage by Daryl Hall! Gather round as we also pay tribute to the creators of the Yacht Rock genre, the talented and hilarious dudes of “Beyond Yacht Rock”!
This week we welcome actor, master impressionist, and zombie killer Ross Marquand! While you may know him as Aaron from The Walking Dead, we now know him as the best (and only?) John C. Reilly impersonator. He also blessed us with (Soft) Spot-on impressions of your fav Sorprano, your favorite philosophical Texan actor, and a certain legendary Scottish silver fox. If you don’t know who We are talking about, I guess it’s about time you tune in and figure it out! And if that’s not enough reason to listen, Ross’s Soft Spot is a twofer: both the theme song of and the television show, Highlander! In fact, his enthusiasm for the show is so contagious you will feel like you’ve been bitten by a Highlander zombie, doomed to wander the earth in search of old episodes. Enjoy!
Our guest this week is tremendous stand up and actor Emma Willmann. If anyone will show you who they are with fantastic honesty, Emma will man. She talks about the things that bring her to her happy place; peanut butter, the Backstreet Boys, and porn (not necessarily in that order - obviously it would go porn, peanut butter, Backstreet). She also discusses the importance of elevating your sweater game to feel warm on the inside. So quit playing games with our hearts and listen to Emma’s bulletproof cure for the blues, PPB&BB.
Have you ever heard that it’s good luck to put a troll doll in your panty drawer? Neither had we until Beth Stelling came to hang with us on The Soft Spot! Beth is an incredible comedian and writer and if you aren’t familiar with her, you must be living under a rock because she is one of the funniest people in the biz! Join us as we discuss the original Troll Dolls, pimple popping, Saved By The Bell, and other various other childhood favs!
The Soft Spot welcomes gorgeous kid John Mulaney! His love for Mr. Rogers reminds us that what is essential is not visible, that speaking softly can have a loud effect, and that not everybody has heard the Backstreet Boys..
The Soft Spot really comes into its own as we discuss power ballads with Kyle Kinane. Is this Love?
We are joined by our neighbor and fellow NY transplant, Eliot Glazer! The 3 of us touch on all of our favorite things about both places and Meg and Eliot go head to head in a game of NY vs LA trivia.
Julian and Meg start on their farewell tour and reveal their Soft Spots gone sour, former Soft Spots that just don’t hold up when revisited. Then they remember their visit with gorgeous kid John Mulaney! His love for Mr. Rogers reminds us that what is essential is not visible, that speaking softly can have a loud effect, and that not everybody has heard the Backstreet Boys..
For this weeks episode we are joined by our pal Gareth Reynolds of the popular podcast, “The Dollop”. We discuss his childhood obsession with The Monkees and then we discuss his... adulthood obsession of The Monkees!
The Soft Spot welcomes teen heartthrob and teen at heart April Richardson! Turns out she’s a real softie for the movie Who’s That Girl starring Griffin Dunne (and Madonna).
This week we welcome tall drink of water Christian Duguay to the Soft Spot! We talk about the music he loved most during the most heartbreaking years of our lives, and it’s our favorite too! If you’ve ever had a bunch of terrible feelings as a late teen, loved the Smiths, OMD or Radiohead, and had your heart ripped out through your butt, this episode is for you. If none of that sounds familiar, you probably don’tlisten to this show in the first place. Enjoy!
