Ever feel like your meal is just one heart attack on a plate? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Today’s tip is about managing your meat intake. While I am not going to tell you to become a vegetarian, I will tell you that most Americans eat too much meat. Processed meats, like sausage can actually trigger inflammation and migraine headaches, especially if they are filled with preservatives. And, cooking out on the grill may not be so good for you either. Studies show that charring your meat or cooking it out on a grill may actually age you prematurely and lead to heart disease. When you do eat meat, chose lean cuts and try to keep your portion to 4 oz. Try to forgo meat at least one day a week. Now, if you suffer from gout or arthritis, consider limiting your meat to only one night a week.
