in this episode the Chris and I each pick out 6 Doctor Who episodes that we feel like a person who is not a fan of Doctor Who, could watch and become a fan or Whovian. We express our love for The Doctor and take some time to talk about how we became Whovians ourselves. We hope to spread the word and get people who might not be into Doctor Who to give it a chance, with these insightful episodes that we picked out.
We're here! (back) The podcast didn't end and we came back for some nostalgia.  Another set of 80's kids movies that we take the time to try to figure out if they are really kid friendly or not. We watch The Neverending Story and talk about the deep messages that it conveys, Labyrinth and how it's a live action "Where's Waldo" game, and The Dark Crystal where we talk about how it just might be a Muppet Star Wars. We get a little crazy, have our tangents AND as an added bonus, WE SING. Yeah... we are so very sorry... come join us on a wild ride. also for the song used in the new intro:Nebula by Savfk | https://www.youtube.com/savfkmusicMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comAttribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
Our second episode in our Halloween series is none other than the famous Hocus Pocus and the 1990 film The Witches! Released just in time for the remake to release so you can hear our takes (the good, bad, and ugly) of both films. We're back to versing movies one-on-one in this episode. Also, we're switching things up a little bit! We're trying out a different format to try and shorten the length of our episodes without losing any of the comedic content we hope you all know and love! Welcome back to the Tangent Verses! This episode kicks off the first of what we hope to be many tangents about our favorite Halloween cult classics.A little different that our usual setup, we are only focusing on one film today because we felt like it had a lot of goodies for us to unpack. Sit back and relax while we dive into "Death Becomes Her" and we see how Drunk Becomes Chris. Link Tree for ALL the things!!! The Chris and I talk about 2 movies that we both really enjoyed. Upgrade and Ex Machina, two movies that have two takes on artificial intelligence. Slight deep dives into each movie without spoiling too much, but things are spoiled, so beware if you have not watched and do not want them spoiled, with podcast promos from a couple of my favorite podcasts: Reverie True Crime and I Understood That Reference, check them both out!!Link Tree for ALL the things!!! It is a known fact that drinks are had during our preshow, this is why it is called "pregame." In this episode you can really tell that drinks are had. While we attempt (and i do mean attempt) to talk about artificial intelligence and how far we really think it could go in our reality, Amber laughs, The Chris brings up Jumanji, and I (Kelvin) attempt to hold everybody together. We do manage a few insightful moments talking about Isaac Asimov and his Three Laws of Robotics and also if a "Terminator" scenario is possible. I hope you enjoy this more than I did while editing.Link Tree for ALL the things!!! THE CHRIS IS BACK and for this grand occasion we start a new series called Host V Host, where we challenge each other to something that is out of our "normal" wheelhouse. This week i challenged The Chris to Hamilton. He enjoys history, but not a huge fan of musicals, so we should see how it goes, here is a link to the film theory video i mentioned.Link Tree for ALL the things!!! Amber is scary so i picked out some very light horror movies for her to watch, Horns and He Never Died. We talk about what makes them work and what fails, a little about the religious undertones in each, and if these are actually horror movies.Link Tree for ALL the things!!! Do mermaids exist in the real world? We don't know, we don't have all the answers, but they exist in movies! This trip down the rabbit hole takes Amber and I above and below the sea. We first visit the merfolk of Atlantica and talk about is Triton really good at is job and how Eric was a good change from past princes before the Disney Renaissance. We then take a trip to Japan to hear a different take on the classic fairytale written by Hans Christian Andersen. We get to see how another culture takes a well known story and interprets it in a way that you might not expect. Studio Ghibli always makes a beautiful movie and this is no exception, and they took the story and made it not only good for children but also emotions that a young child could understand: Love. If you have never see a Ghibli movie, i think this would be a good place to start. So come join us in some talk about Mermaids, have some hiccups, and Amber shows that she is pretty good at hosting.Link Tree for ALL the things!!! Since the Mary Poppins episode decide to be difficult, i decided to give you a little taste of the some of the random conversations that come with the Pregame Preshow on our Patreon. For this episode, since we recorded this before the Bedknobs episdoe, we talk about if Mary Poppins really is a Time Lord, among other slice of life tangents, this is also Ambers first recording on the show. Also the show art is not mine, but i found it online and think it could be a shirt, link here.Link Tree for ALL the things!!! Let's talk Pixar and Dreamworks a bit and the huge leaps that they both made for CGI features. Both of these movies have their good and bad parts, but sometimes the price can be paid when trying to beat another to the theater, which might have actually worked out in favor of Antz. Amber stands in once more for The Chris as we talk about these movies about insects and what stands the two apart and what makes them similar, and we question how did Dreamworks drop the ball on music when they do have good quality music in their other animated features.Link Tree for ALL the things!!! This was supposed to be a Bedknobs VERSES Mary Poppins but for some reason the second of my audio completely messed up, I am working on fixing it but until then, here is the first half, with a special guest, friend of mine, meet this little bundle of energy, Amber.Link Tree for ALL the things!!! We are back! Doing what we do best, MOVIE TALK! Comparing and critiquing 2 very different movies with similar themes. The treatment of other species and what humanity could potentially do if we went to another planet that wasn't ours and treated it like it was, with Avatar, and how we might treat another species if they came to us and needed help, with District 9. Deeper meanings can be felt in these movies if you look beneath  surface and compare it to what is currently going on in our world today with protests. Get some popcorn and sit back and have fun with us while we discuss the good, bad, and ugly about these movies.
You read the title, we're talking about breaking bad, the first in a series and where we're gonna cover the whole series
The Chis and I devote a full episode to discussing movie sequels. The Chris talks about what he thinks a sequel to Paul would be and I express my feelings for a sequel to District 9 and some closure to the Suicide Squad's Joker and how he was really Jason Todd, no matter what anybody says, also a debate on whether Mad Max is better than Road Warrior, sounds like a VERSES episode is in the near future.
The Chris and I have a good discussion as to why The Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix: Revolutions should not have been made, you see the title. We go a bit deep into a few underlying messages that are conflicting each other between The Matrix and The Matrix: Reloaded. Also there are shoutouts to a few other podcast: We're Doing Fine, Ocho Duro Parlay Hour,  The Film Theorists/MatPat, Nerd Stuff With SlytherPuff;  We also talk about a few videos that give you a different take on the whole Matrix Trilogy - Maybe Neo Isn't The One and The Matrix Within a Matrix Join us on this trip down the rabbit hole and if you like join The Tangent 'Verses Space Station on facebook to talk to The Chris and I, Kelvin for some fun, jokes, memes, and of course, movie discussions Twitter for The Tangent 'VersesEmail: thetangentverses@yahoo.com  also for the song used in the new intro:Nebula by Savfk | https://www.youtube.com/savfkmusicMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comAttribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
The Chris and I discuss and talk about Cloverfield, the last in our month of found footage. We kind of fan girl over T.J. Miller in this movie and have a debate on what the difference between impalement and skewered. Things get a little bit crazy. We also unveil our new rating system! We laugh and sing a lot this episode, so if you wanna join us, come take a trip down this rabbit hole with us into The Tangent 'Verses.
Do you believe the moon landing was faked? This found footage movie (pseudo documentary) just might challenge your beliefs in that area, me and The Chris talk about this movie and discuss how we feel about the moon landing, not our regular type of movie, it runs a bit slow for us, so the episode seems a bit slow to us, hope you still enjoy it.
If you like alien tales, then we have an episode for you. We discuss 2009's The Fourth Kind and point out that it just may have got a bad rep. The marketing was very similar to 1999's The Blair Witch Project, but that very same marketing that worked for The Blair Witch seemed to doom The Fourth Kind from the start, which sucks because this movie was really well put together. Marketed as a real documentary, it is actually a pseudo documentary or, the phrase that The Chris would like to coin, a "faux-cumentary, that focuses on a doctor dealing with the murder of her husband. If you haven't watched it before you listen and are interested then please do because we spoil this movie early in, you have been warned. Twitter: @TangentVersesEmail: thetangentverses@yahoo.comFacebook: @TheTangentVerses  also for the song used in the new intro:Nebula by Savfk | https://www.youtube.com/savfkmusicMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comAttribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
Time travel, time travel, time travel, oh the problems you cause. In this episode The Chris and I watch another found footage movie, and i swear by the time we are finished with all these shaky cams I am never watching another found footage movie again (and we still have 3 more to do, why did i do this to us.) We watched Project Almanac. We had fun, but boy oh boy, there are so many holes, join us while we destroy the logic of this movie and still enjoy it even tho there is no way this movie could actually work.
For the first movie in our Found Footage month, we watched 2012's Chronicle. We break it all down and talk a little about how we think that a few other popular shows and movies might have taken a few elements from this movie. Jokes and laughs with a few drinks make this breakdown pretty entertaining and of course don't forget that we have a few Tangents here in our Universe, The Tangent 'Verses. Come join us while we take trip discussing a movie that just might be a little underrated.Twitter: @TangentVersesEmail: thetangentverses@yahoo.comFacebook: @TheTangentVerses  also for the song used in the new intro:Nebula by Savfk | https://www.youtube.com/savfkmusicMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comAttribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
In this final episode of our month of Superhumans, we do our verses thing and pit two movies from the late 90's against each other; 1995's Powder and 1996's Phenomenon. Both of these movies have a main character that has some very unique abilities that affect other people in different ways. The Chris and I break them both down and pick which one we think is the better movie, but we do highly recommend both of them, that's no spoiler; but just in case you are interested in seeing these movies before we do actually spoil them, check out the movies before you give us a listen. We have some fun laughs and a little bit of singing again, that's apparently slowly becoming a thing. Hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording. also for the song used in the new intro:Nebula by Savfk | https://www.youtube.com/savfkmusicMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comAttribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
We finish what we promised last episode and come together to breakdown, review, and discuss Wilder Napalm. A 1993 dark-ish comedy, written by Vince Gilligan, about two pyrokinetic brothers and their rival over a woman. A largely unknown movie, with an unknown budget that was only released in 35 theaters and only made $85,000 in the box office.
In this episode we attempt, and i do mean attempt, to cover the new Netflix show I Am Not Okay With This and a movie recently added to the Netflix roster, Freaks. Beware their will be spoilers. The plan was to lightly cover these two then do a full breakdown of a 1993 movie called Wilder Napalm, but we had to break the episode into two parts. Little did we know there was more that we wanted to talk about Netflix show and movie than we thought. Debates, tangents, sporadic  moments all included, free of charge, we apologize and thank you all at the same time for taking this ride with us.
