RATING
I loved this unique 'concept drama' where the music was as important and affecting as the narrative itself. A young woman decides to climb 'the tower' - and from the outset the weaving of reality with dreamlike fantasy is beautifully sustained by the absurdly talented creative team behind it. It's sweet, and soulful, and I'd love it to be less unique. i.e. get on with making season two, please.
Just this past week I binged the whole 7-episode series and loved it. The story here is reminiscent of Jorge Luis Borges or Ted Chiang, following the journey of a young woman as she climbs a seemingly endless tower. The writing, performances, and sound design are all top-notch, and the way the story is told through a series of phone calls works really well. It's eerie or haunting at times, but the conversations between the characters are also intimate. I'm just thrilled to see how podcasts have pushed the audio drama landscape, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here.
A surreal, dreamlike (and super perfectly produced) limited run series. Inevitably wonderful, truly.
A gloriously created world that is a perfect blend of simplicity and complexity with an exceptional performance from Katrina Allen. More please!
This show feels a bit like a fairy tale, mainly because of the beautiful and dreamlike music. A delightful story of adventure, bravery and ghosts as well as a story of mankind and the impact, we have on the world.
An ambitious audio drama that crams a surprising amount of depth and feeling into its short running time. The existential plot asks more than it answers and yet still crucially leaves you satisfied and eager to hear more. The score is probably the best I’ve ever heard in the medium.
A truly impressive piece of magical realism, told with a light touch and ingenuity. The voice acting, score and sound design is top notch and the sad, heartfelt mood it spins will stay with you.
Can I give this a zero star because this is horrible it hasn't even a end, do not waste your time this isn't any of especial. I listened to expecting something to happen and I'm wondering what's this. Meaningless. Senselessly
Such a wonderful, heartfelt story - beautiful and mysterious, uplifting and ambiguous, this story holds back as much as it gives, allowing you to find your own meaning in it. A quiet accomplishment, with stellar acting and beautiful music. And taking just an hour to experience makes it a wonderful find for a car ride or neighborhood walk. Don't miss.
So interesting and really unique. A young woman who feels directionless in her life climbs what is essentially a fictional tower of babbel. Along the way she'll find more than just herself, not all of the discoveries are wanted. Such a simple concept, girl climbs vaguely spooky tower and yet it kept me listening with rapt attention episode after episode.
I'm honestly not sure what I just listened to. The whole thing felt very dream-like with a gorgeous score and soundscape. The foundation of the story was solid and super intriguing, but honestly, it felt very hollow. It didn't feel like there was any depth at all, and ended abruptly. It was pleasant to the ears, acting was great, but unless I missed out on a huge metaphor, not sure what story it really told.
I listened to the entire audio drama while cooking jambalaya the other day. I had been looking for a more cinematic soundscape and came across this series. The music and sound really makes you fall into the space. The voice actors do a great job of making you see the story in your head. That said this isn’t for everyone. This audio drama is less about story and more about ideas like isolation and connecting to the world. Still, I’m giving it one less star because I didn’t feel as though it was complete. It ends rather abruptly in a way that made me think there must be more episodes. And I wish there were. If the story was as solid as the ideas and themes, this would be amazing.
Phenomenal sound design is just the gateway to a story of subtly creepiness and isolation, yet not without its warmth and intrigue.
Absolutely beautiful and moving. Incredible music and sound design, simple but significant story.
I can see why this would be a popular podcast. It’s very well done, it has enough mystery to keep someone interested, and it’s dreamlike and philosophical. However, after several episodes I decided the slow dreamlike state wasn’t for me.
Hits the perfect sweetspot of feeling dreamlike yet utterly real+relatable.
Absolutely gorgeous story. I wish it was longer.
The Tower is something that you have to give a chance. After one or two episodes you will be hooked.
