My guest today is one of my nearest and dearest best friends. I have known him since high school and ever since I’ve known him, he has been an absolute stud when it comes to human performance.

Since I’ve known him, he has been jacked, shredded, and one of the strongest guys I have ever known. The best part is that he is truly a humble soul and goes about his business with class. He played D1 college football at the University of South Florida as a fullback and set the school record for a vertical jump at 43.5 inches, which is a super impressive feat, if you didn’t know.

He trained on the United States Olympic Bob sled team which is a high honor and privilege to be a part of. Not just any Joe Schmoe can train with the bobsled team.

He was in an under armor commercial with Julio Jones, he has trained alongside Alex Rodriguez and Rob Gronkowski. He has even had a shout out from The Rock Johnson on twitter.

This is a man who lifts some big boy weights and owns the gym. In his very first body building physique competition, he placed 2nd overall at the NPC Rocky Mountain Championships, which is super impressive for a first timer.

I know very few people who work as hard as he does. His work ethic is seriously incredible. He is a full-time Doctor of Chiropractic working in San Diego California at Bayside Spine and Sport. He is seriously one of the best people I know in my life. And I am fortunate to have him as a friend. He is Dr. Justin Wilcox!

SHOW NOTES:

3:10 – Dr. Wilcox talks about how he decided to dive into body building and athletic performance so that he could become a better athlete and outperform everyone

6:00 – Dr. Wilcox talks about his incredible story growing up with his younger brother and how it shaped him as a person. How he and his brother had to stay together in order to make it through hard times.

10:38 – Dr. Wilcox talks about who influenced him most into biohacking and taking human performance to another level. He talks about what and who made him push himself. He always had the underdog mentality and he has always been out to prove himself.

18:45 – Dr. Wilcox talks about his daily habits that increase his quality of life. Things like sleep hacking. Having enough water in the day. Having enough sunlight in the day. Taking time out in nature. Having a foundation of health matters first before biohacking.

25:00 – Dr. Wilcox talks about Chiropractic Biophysics and how it is taking the chiropractic profession to another level. Chiropractic Biophysics is the most researched and scientifically based form of Chiropractic Biophysics on the planet. Based off your posture and biomechanics, this will determine your health and quality of life. What makes CBP different than traditional chiropractic care.

28:40 – I talk about a cross-fit athlete who had neck pain, shoulder pain, low back pain and headaches. He stopped lifting weights completely and committed to CBP care for 3 months. After care he added 50 pounds on each power lift even without lifting weights for 3 months!

30:45 – We talk about how I was born with Arnold-Chiari Malformation and how it was giving me migraine headaches. I found that by having a straight cervical spine, it created more tension which led to more headaches. I then utilized CBP technique and increase the healthy curve of my cervical spine which decreased the frequency of my migraines.

33:10 – Dr. Wilcox talks about his personal weight lifting records, his current strength and how you can get stronger to lift more weight in the gym.

36:14 – Dr. Wilcox talks about how to get stronger through biomechanics and form. He gives some really quick tips to increase your strength by 10-40 pounds instantly. How intra-abdominal pressure can add a ton of strength.

39:00 – Dr. Wilcox talks about nutritional approaches to getting stronger and fitter. Based off your goals and your current health will determine your dietary approach. If you have an autoimmune condition or digestive issue, you need to address that first. A good and safe way to start is trying a paleo type diet.

42:00 – Dr. Wilcox talks about seeing a health care provider to talk about nutrition and losing weight. He talks about if you are eligible, you may be able to bill your insurance for a nutritional consult and they will likely cover it.

44:00 – Dr. Wilcox talks about the supplements he takes to enhance his workouts and quality of life. He talks about how many supplements he used to take. He recommends certain brands like Xymogen and Thorne. He talks about why most supplements are of crappy quality. He talks about how supplements should not be used as a cure-all because everyone is an individual.

49:20 – Dr. Wilcox talks about his morning routine and what he does so that he can continue to be a freak-show. Talks about how he reviews his day, has his coffee, studies and works out to get his mind right. He stressed that having routines are very important. He talks about how he does not meal prep and only eats fresh cooked foods so that he limits histamine responses. Even talks about saunas and cold tub training.

54:20:

  1. If the world was ending today and you could eat anything for your last meal, what would it be?

56:32:

  1. If you had one week to live and you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?

“I would travel around the USA because there are so many good things still to visit. I would also want to see Glacier and Yosemite National Park because I really love to climb and hike mountains. And even maybe Mount Everest.”

57:58:

  1. If you had one piece of advice for anyone out there listening to live a better life?

“Look for the positives in the hardships of life. You can either let hardships and circumstances in your life beat you or you can think that these circumstances are making a better you each day. Always strive to be the best version of you even when it comes to dealing with things you don’t want to deal with. Keep moving forward and embrace the suffering.”
