Released Sunday, 12th April 2015
Good episode? Give it some love!
In this episode Kirsty and Sarah discuss the expat empty nest. What happens when your children go off to boarding school or university. Kirsty shared her personal story of getting ready to send her eldest daughter to boarding school in Australia. You can read more of Kirsty’s story on her blog. A lot of the discussion centered around other people’s reactions and perhaps the best way to deal with negative comments, often from those closest to you.

Kirsty shared this article from Brain Child Magazine on what not to say to the parents of boarding school kids.

College or University life can often be harder for young expat or third culture kids and this great article is a great read for any parent or child getting ready to leave the expat world for college life.

Sarah’s Instagram Pick: @NewYorkCity – Liz Eswein has one of the most popular non-celebrity IG accounts. A recent graduate of NYU, Liz takes amazing photos of NYC and its inhabitants. Because her account is so popular she was able to go on and create her own company The Mobile Media Lab which is basically a marketing agency for Instagram.

Sarah’s Podcast Pick: Undisclosed: The State v. Adnan Syed – picking up where Serial left off. The show will be hosted by Adnan’s family friend Rabia Chaudry and also lawyers Susan Simpson and Colin Miller.

Kirsty’s Podcast Pick: The Longest Shortest Time. – hosted by Hilary Frank and Joanna Solotaroff ex This American Life – It’s moving and it’s real. Interviews with people in real life situations asking tough questions about parenthood.

Sarah’s Hashtag: Did you know one of the most popular # this year is #iphonesia – do you know what it means? I couldn’t work it out so I googled it – it’s for people living or visiting Indonesia and South East Asia. When you click on the # on IG you can see over 57 million photos!

Kirsty’s Hashtage: #putyourdressout Australian women are posting images of their wedding dresses on social media to pay tribute to Stephanie Scott.
