Here's a short teaser of our brand new Patreon-exclusive episode of Uncut Gems Retrospectives, a monthly series where we pick a handful of movies tied around a specific theme, a filmmaker or an actor and have an honest chat about them. This month we are tying our retrospective to our September mini-collaboration with Death by Adaptation Podcast where we'll be talking about a bunch of Elmore Leonard adaptations, most of which fall into the sub-genre of neo-noir. Therefore, we thought it would be cool to talk about three other modern neo-noir films and it just so happens that The Coen Brothers have been frequently revisiting this genre themselves. We chose Blood Simple, Miller's Crossing and The Man Who Wasn't There and we spent a good few hours discussing The Coens' visual penchant for fetishizing settings and eras, arguing if Miller's Crossing is a perfect story or if it's perhaps bloated with plot, and wondering if The Man Who Wasn't There may have been a bit too self-indulgent for its own good.
