RATING
Best missing persons podcast ever. Host asks all the questions you would if you were conducting the interview yourself. Covers under/non reported cases. Great podcast all around!
I look forward to each new episode of this amazing podcast. Ed Dentzel researches each episode with diligence and leaves nothing out. Without a doubt it is 1 of THE BEST true crime podcasts
As far as the host goes, I think he's a great human being. He brings attention to a LOT OF missing people cases and he does his best to keep rumors, innuendo and "conspiracy theories" out of the stories. He also seems to be making zero dollars and cents (no commercials and no peddling) off the podcast or anything to do with it. Doesn't label it as True Crime, nor does he do any of the true crime con junk. He's pretty transparent about his methods and usually takes the higher ground, or at least his version of it.However, the higher ground can be tricky depending on one's viewpoint, and I find that 70% of the time his commentary on each missing person case and their unique situation is cringey to the point of sounding like satire (seems like he bookends the show with some sort of silly personal philosophy and then summarizes with what, to me, usually sounds either judgmental or preachy towards whomever he thinks might be to blame for the vanishing). Even near the beginning of each show when he's building up to the name of the episode....um, no. It's SO. CAMPY. So, why have I been a loyal listener for 4 out of the show's 5 years? The interviews with the friends and family members are on point almost every time. If there is 2 hours worth of information, the show will be 2 hours and 15 minutes. That's awesome...time sort of is no issue. He doesn't let the guests evade questions or topics for the most part, but he's gentle about it. He's very empathetic but also NO-BS - and that kind of integrity is imperative in a missing persons podcast. Overall, he's well-meaning and the amount of inside information he is getting and the insights he provides is extremely valuable. My first and favorite podcast is the Vanished, but after listening to every episode of that 2x, I found this podcast which is pleasingly comparable and I'm so glad I did.I think if he cleaned up the intro (summary, news, future plans, etc) and outro, I would definitely add that 5th star. Honestly, I think he should let a lighter voice (preferably a female voice) do the intro and outro - maybe even edit it a little (ahem, I know an awesome editor) - and then make Ed the hard-hitting host in between for the interview and insight.
