What I love about this show is how it balances a casual tone with deep insights into poems. I think that the way a lot of us learn about poetry in school makes us think of it as stuffy and academic, but shows like this and hosts like Franny Choi and Danez Smith put the lie to that, showing us how alive and energetic and *fun* poetry is, which just makes all the more apparent the ways that poetry is beautiful and profound and resonant. I also particularly love the pre-show and post-show banter between Franny and Danez, which is often hilarious and always makes it apparent how close the two are.
