Brilliant! Great Podcast about pop culture, fandom and nerdom. Holden and Jake really put in the effort and it shows
Yaaaaaas! You guys are THE BEST! Not only do you give me fresh takes and familiar faps about all of my favorite shit in the world, but you've also turned me on to new things that I'm really digging or, in the worst case scenario, you're at least making me conversant in and appreciative of little pieces of nerd culture that I've never had time or interest in following. Your shows are always so well researched. I particularly liked your recent Nerf episode. Even being a life-long fan of Nerf from when it was just a sponge ball and a hoop and appreciating a BALL you could PLAY with IN THE HOUSE, there was so much about the history and the culture around the brand that I didn't know. Thanks for everything and keep up the great work.
Jake and Holden are an absolute delight. They do the research and bring and excitement that is contagious (poor choice of words right now, sorry) to every topic they discuss.
Two funny guys educating us on anything nerd! One of the highlights in my podcast list.
Hillarious hosts and great topics!
A variety of nerdy, geeked out knowledge along with some very funny comedy. The Wizard and the Bruiser both came into my ear holes when I was exploring a cave in someone's backyard in Japan and met an old man dressed as a plumber in red coveralls who told me it is dangerous to go alone out there, take this as he handed me a piece of paper with the podcast name on it.
At first, this show was focused on telling interesting stories about video games and pop culture history, and it was pretty good - Holden and Jake both seemed to be having fun. It then became a show about current trends, talking about topics that were relevant to that current media’s release. Very clickbate/ SEO friendly. Not bad per say, just boring. Now however, the podcast has changed into a show about lecturing its audience. Instead of just talking about the objective history of any certain topic, Holden and Jake have chosen to berate their listeners. The most recent episode about G4 could have been fun to listen to (I grew up watching the misery that was mid 2000s G4) but instead, the first 10 minutes are focused on Holden yelling at the male listeners while being needlessly defensive about a situation no one was going to escalate in the first place, and Jake makes wild claims about G4 that are factually untrue. Like okay, I’m a female and bi, I agree with the basic stances of what they were saying, but maybe don’t start your comedy podcast about actual childish topics with a politically charged lecture - it’s purposefully misleading. This episode isn’t the only one to do this by the way. Jake and Holden don’t even sound happy anymore. They seem very exhausted by the subjects, and each episode seems insanely forced. I’m not sure it can be fixed either. Don’t bother listening to this show. If you like video game podcasts, check out GetPlayed. If you want more comic/ nerd history, you can listen to Geek History Lesson. I’m just saying, there are FAR better podcasts that respect your intelligence and time.
I've been listening to Wizard and the Bruiser for well over a year and a half now, and every episode I listen to cracks me up! Not only are they well informed on whatever topic they may be covering that week, they have their own personal opinions and stories related to the subject matter. Both hosts (as well as any co-hosts featured) are fantastic at what they do. Very relatable, very funny, will be listening for years to come!
