This week on Womanity – Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to Professor Anita Bosch, who is  an associate professor at the University of Stellenbosch Business School, South Africa, where she holds the USB Research Chair dedicated to the study of women at work. We consider aspects that can be undertaken directly by an organisation such as fast-tracking women in the early phase of their career and expanding their recruitment network to appoint qualified women. We look at the role of quotas and voluntary targets, with evidence from Germany, Norway, Spain and Australia. We discuss legislative gaps in the Companies Act and King IV which could be tweaked to improve equality in organisations. We remark on the need for robust consistent monitoring of women in the workplace and the role of the media to encourage companies to be accountable at the risk of reputational damage.
