I got so close to listening all the way through, 13 minutes from the end and I had to stop. At the start of the section on DEI.
James had increasingly talked about "liberals", as a group and at this point made a hugely sweeping statement, taking the most extreme position as what they all think. I really should have listened further but this just felt like setting up ideas very few would expound as a target to destroy and therefore destroy all liberal thinking in the process. Or at least show how silly it is to worry about inclusivity and discrimination. The obsession with being seen to "win" was very strong.
There seems very little of what I understand as my Christian living in his restriction of love to those close to us. Being a good steward calls us to look out for all people, to forego our own comfort and convenience so others can just scrape by. I wonder if his question of dying for Europe plays well with WWII veterans?
OK rant over, I think I might be able to listen to the rest now.
I failed again part way through DEI, but eventually listened to the end. I felt his approach was so counter to the reason this podcast exists that I was surprised Elizabeth didn't mention it in her summing up.
