This show gave me *all the feels* and I loved it! I mean, I hated it, but I also loved it so so so so so much! Limited series are often amazing in their containment, and this show is up there with the best of them!
This podcast really utilizes its inverse timelime to create this amazing rollercoaster of emotions. I'm on the edge of my seat everytime I listen!
It's alright I guess, if you can feel much sympathy for characters who are Too Dumb To Live. You can skip to Entry 8 to find out exactly how dumb.
Great quality, great acting, and holds your interest. Enjoyed listening to their journey and what happened next.
Soooooooooo good! Like if you have not already put this in your ears why not? It is written so well. Production is amazing and I just can't say enough good things about it.
A really nice short one-off sci-fi tragedy story that you can knock out in an afternoon. The acting is really good and helps bolster up the characters while I do enjoy this show and recommend it I am not a huge fan of the framing device of having the story be told in a non-linear fashion. The non-linear fashion works at times but I think more time could have been put into the romance and dynamic between our two lead characters, a stronger understanding of their bond would help add to the sadness of the drama.
it was interesting to listen to it with the lost tapes all mixed up, so you don't have a linear structure but the romance/friendship/character depth aspect of it and the screeching sounds that made my ears bleed and visibly wince was a downer. overall, the story is well-written and interesting but very forgetabl in terms of characters which is always a draw for me
Everything that Jordan Cobb and No Such Thing Productions do in the audio drama world is sheer perfection and Janus Descending is no exception! This is the Alien-esque sci-fi horror that I ADORE, made even more thrilling by the way we experience one character’s perspective chronologically and the other’s in reverse. It’s both cleverly and beautifully written and choosing to have only two characters makes the whole thing so much more intimate. You really feel like you’re inside their heads as everything goes down. There are so many scenes in this which ruined me but… the caves. THE CAVES, MAN. The sound design and music are both stunning and it’s almost impossible to believe that this is an indie production, it’s so cinematic. I recommend this show to literally everyone who asks me for audio drama recommendations. It’s a must listen!!
I wasn't sure how the story could work with the strange order, but the creative team chose the best possible way to enjoy the story and I was happy I listened to it the way it was intended! Great acting, great writing, solid sound design!
I have a lot of feelings about Janus Descending, but most of them are just incoherent screeching about Jordan Cobb's ability to EVERYTHING. So. That. Good! Yes.
A Phenomenal and Eerie TaleEasily one of the best audio dramas i have listened to, and I have heard quite a few! The non linear story telling, background ambience, and sfx really step this story up that just captivates you with a tale you can't look(Hear?) away from. If you're looking for a great horror sci fi tale then this will not disappoint. It builds incredibly well, giving you just enough information to let your mind take flight with so many "What ifs" and right when you think you solved it the story gets weirder and takes you for a twist. Get ready to hop in your envirosuit and check out some dead aliens because this is a story you won't forget!
Mainlined this podcast in the span of one day. I was hooked instantly from the first prologue episode, and it only got better from there. When it's done right, that mix of scifi and horror can't be beat and this was done Right! You know from the start that it doesn't end well for Chel and Peter, and even then you can't help but get attached to them (especially Chel). I felt for them so much, episode 12 almost killed me flat out. I can't wait to see other stories from the same universe!
Janus Descending is a fantastic audio drama!!! I listened to the whole thing in one day, and I was hooked!
A very well-told tale of horror, romance, and despair on an alien planet. Great acting and writing - recommended. Excellent music too!
not going with the full 5 stars. it good a bit painful with the noise levels or mixing or whatever the technical term is where I am having to max volume to hear speech and then the next thing is so loud I almost crash the car. Also, for where the story is going, it is just taking too long for what it is.
Chilling, horrifying and utterly disturbing. The outstanding acting and sound design tells a story of love, fear, hope and despair. The writing is clever, exiting and unpredictable in the most positive way.
The non-linear narrative does a great job of building suspense and keeping the reader questioning - what's the nature of the monster? What really happened? This is where the title comes in; one of the Roman god Janus' faces looks towards the future, while the other looks towards the past. Literary allusions are also present in the allusions to the Genesis story (ex. snake murals). Beautiful monologues and great performances. I would have liked to hear a bit more time dedicated to developing the dynamic between the two leads.
A great non-linear narrative, with some strong twists and turns. At times it seems a little too reliant on the twist, but overall it's a great ride.Audio production is top tier too.
Incredible acting, incredible sound design, incredible story. The double narratives work so well here, and the chemistry between the two main characters is made even more heartbreaking because we know how their story ends from the start. A beautiful, smart show that will grab you from episode 1.
This podcast is told in a fascinating way and it's unlike anything I've ever listened to.It's a homage to the writers that - due to format - the listener knows how the story as a whole will end, yet the final episode still emotionally wrecked me
