This review comes after my listening through Episode 3.There are a lot of "found footage" podcasts out there. There are a lot of "zombie" and "post apocalypse" podcasts, too. And while Rapture 518 falls into these categories, this one sticks with me. This one is different, and has me hooked.A lot of it is the superb performance by the anonymous actor playing Dr. Sarah Penn, who nails being believably conversational and yet polished in performance. Much of it is the setting and the slow unspooling of the mystery of the world and Rapture itself. But I think for me it's that Penn knows things aren't what they seem. And WE know things aren't what they seem. But I am already thinking that things are even further removed from that. And whether this is true or not, the fact that Rapture 518 sneaks into your head with its sympathetic character and once inside, starts playing with your expectations, means I'm coming back to this smart, simple show.
Rapture 518Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to my show and write this review. I can’t express how much I appreciate your support and I hope the continued episodes keep you enthralled 💙. I hope s…
I usually don't like apocalyptics stories too much, because they're just too depressing. But despite having serious and horrifying and sad moments , this podcast also manages to not get too depressing for me. There are many light hearted moments and nice memories and best of all it never seems like all hope is lost, if that makes sense?I also love the mystery at the heart of all of this! And the sound design is very nostalgic, low key and well done in my opionion. The acting is also very well done, so having one narrator never gets stale.Personal highlight of the show: "I did eat a quarter of a block of cheese" - the most iconic and relatable podcast quote 2020. And (without spoilers but the people who listened will know what I mean) the window cleaning scene in episode 3 had SUCH a good setup, I SCREAMED.
Rapture 518This is such a beautiful review to read! I’m so happy that the show hasn’t been too depressing haha. I’m trying really hard to keep a bit of a comedic tone to it in most episodes to keep it from gett…
To be real honest, apocalyptic shows aren't exactly ones that I flock to. There are amazing ones out there right now. Shows like "We're Alive." Rapture 518 is in the same vein, but feels very different. The very first episode grabbed me from the get go. And each one since has just added to the feeling of *I have to know what happens next.* Even though it is early, the story has a strong base to build off of. The sound design and music are wonderful. Dr Penn has a great voice that is easy to listen to. If you're looking for a wonderful new audio drama to listen to that is different from what the norm is right now, give this show a go!
Rapture 518This is such a beautiful and detailed review! Corey, you’re just the best person in general. I’m so thankful to have you asking for this journey and I hope the show continues to surprise and entice y…
An audio drama that fits right in to this modern era. Dr. Sarah is trying to navigate a rapidly changing world, and she is not safe. This is a thriller with aspects of psychological horror, and the episodes are bite-size, so you're always ready for just one more.
This show has me hooked. My wife and I can't wait to hear what's going to happen next. The pacing is next as it slowly gets you comfortable...then Boom! And the 1/2 episodes really do a great job of world building and preparing you for what's to come.
Rapture 518I’m so glad to hear that the mini episodes helped ! I hope you’re enjoying the mini series as well (and maybe someday the next full season with the return of Sarah). If there is anything I can do to …
Rapture 518 is one of the best post apocalypse podcasts going. While the action is minimal the story is intriguing and the listener can easily put himself in the place of Dr. Penn and her daily activities regarding her situation. A good listen.
Rapture 518Thank you for the review! I hope our show picks up and becomes even more appealing for you as we go forward! 🥰
Masterfully done! Although the first episode presents as a post-apocalyptic story, it continues in a cheerful - almost comforting tone before gradually becoming more creepy, although still with a dose of humor. Love it so far! The narrator is amazing!
Rapture 518Thank you for this lovely review!!! I can’t wait to bring you more and I hope I can continue to keep your interests! 💙
I'm a huge fan of zombie/zombie-like apocalypses and an introvert, so I love how isolated the main character is from everything so there's more of an observation than a panicked struggle for survival.
Zombies are popular. There's no getting around this. That being said there is something distinctly peaceful about the delivery of this story, being told from a frazzled doctors perspective recounting the events that lead her to the apocalypse. I will admit I have only listened to one episode but will absolutely be enjoying more soon!
i really enjoyed this podcast! it has its rough moments, but i think as a listening experience, the story and the characters are well thought out and planned. you can really tell a lot of love went into this! i’m excited to see if there’s another season afterwards, but if not, i like how’s it’s set now.
I really hope we get a new season , because Rapture 518 is so good , on so many different levels and more.
This is exactly the genus of horror I adore. I'm only several episodes in but feel it would be remiss of me not review this asap. Do you relish slow burn expertly executed tension? Of course, you do. You're sharp. I can appreciate that. Put Rapture 518 at the very top of your priority list. Right. Now. Whilst I am currently sparring with the desire make a large spoiler deposit here, I shall refrain. There's charm in going in blind. Long a firm believer in character driven horror, this grabbed me by the carotid and dragged me into its gaping maw. The Protagonist, Dr. Sarah Penn, is carefully illustrated. You will identify with her and this makes the litany of oddities she's reporting all the more terrifying. Those incidents are revealed in a masterful manner that lures you further via your legitimate concern for Dr. Penn. The pacing here is almost rhythmic in its perfection. Yet, this is a symphony and not a pop song. Drop what you're doing and dive into this one. But be warned: you will NOT stop until it stops.
The storytelling, sound design, tone, and pacing completely made me forget I abhor apocalypse stories. That being said, once I remembered, I simply didn't care. It's good to know what you don't like, but it's even better to find the exceptions to the rule who prove that your bias towards or against a particular type of story, might just be ridiculously wrong. Great anthology, and well worth your attention.
Rapture is a really special audio drama. The combination of excellent narration, well paced storytelling, atmospheric sound design and powerful instrumentals really make this show outstanding. I've been hooked from the start and I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a well told thriller. Can't wait to hear more!
