The CyberWire

I am a huge fan of superheroes. I go and see all the Marvel movies on their release date and I was best friends with the comic book nerds in high school so that I didn’t have to buy the books but I still knew everything. I love the idea that there are good guys out there focused on protecting people from the bad guys. However, in a world that lacks aliens waging war on Earth or superhumans rampaging through cities, a different kind of hero would be handy to have around.

Dave Bittner and the team at The CyberWire are ready to be those heroes.

The CyberWire is a daily news brief that runs about twenty minutes long and what we do is we distill the day’s cyber security news down into a digestible brief for busy professionals so they can keep up to date on the latest cyber security news.

It may just be me, but the words “cyber security” only create a vague notion of a job and an even more vague idea of a podcast topic. So I asked Dave to clarify a bit.

There are a lot of different jobs in cyber security. I guess the basic role is there are people that are out there protecting computers and organizations from bad guys who are trying to take their stuff or steal their information or do bad things.

Cyber security workers are the superheroes of today, and The CyberWire team is like home base, making sure everyone knows what’s happening every day. The daily aspect of The Cyber Wire is a major priority because things in the industry change so quickly.

Cyber security is changing so fast and there is breaking news every day. So, if we were to do a weekly, by the time we got that news out to people, some of it would be out of date.

With cyber security covering practically everything on the internet, and the internet affecting everyone and every business, The CyberWire has a lot to talk about. The show ranges from technical news and theories of new trends to the needs of businesses and professionals, and everything in between. Clearly one person can’t cover everything, which is why Dave loves getting to work with his teams and his guests.

My favorite thing is that every day I get to talk to really smart, amazing people about interesting things. So I’m always learning and that never gets old. It’s always intellectually stimulating and it’s always fun.

Listeners must think the show is fun as well because The CyberWire team has a growing and diverse audience.

We’ve heard from people all over the world in all different levels of business and politics, saying that they find what we do valuable. So we just want to continue doing that and try to do our small part in helping to make the world a safer place.

The team is developing their catalog through Research Saturday episodes with longer-form interviews, as well as coming out with some new shows including Hacking Humans which covers social engineering and the scams people use against each other. If you need to keep up with how safe the internet is, if you love daily news, or if you’re looking for some fun interviews, The CyberWire is the show for your daily commute.
