2021 Alabama vs Miami – The Return of Alabama Football

Alabama Football Podcast delivers unique insights into the Tide’s dominating performance against the Miami Hurricanes to launch the 2021 season.

 The Debut of Bryce Young

The outstanding performance of Bryce Young is undeniable. He demonstrated incredible poise in the pocket reading the defense and knowing where to go with the ball. This against a game Cane defense intent on creating confusion and discord at the point of attack. Bryce looked mature beyond his years and outperformed all reasonable expectations.

Offensive Line in Progress

Late shuffling along the Alabama offensive line as the team transitions from camp to season isn’t new and it was on display again as Darrian Dalcourt emerged at Center, allowing (or forcing), Chris Owens over the Right Tackle. For my money, I don’t believe the line is yet set and we may not see the final five until the Florida game.

Skills Development

Four running backs, ten pass catchers, and three quarterbacks touched the ball against Miami. As many as five additional skill payers can and will get touches as the season unfurls. Defending the Alabama skill personnel will get more challenging as the rotation settles and improves.

Saban Doing Saban Things

A favorite moment during Saturday’s context was the footage of Coach Saban sharing a moment with Jahleel Billingsley after Cameron Latu’s 2nd touchdown of the day. By all appearances it was a shared conversation intended to strengthen the communication between player and coach. It was the following possession in which Jahleel saw his first action – a full 2 possessions before TV first noticed Billingsley on the field.

Defensive Measures

By and large, the Alabama defense did not disappoint. Versatility and depth were on display. How the secondary responds to the return of Hellams and the replacement rotation behind Chris Allen will be worth watching in future weeks.

Mini Game balls

Anyone can read a headline, but which players contributed in more subtle ways to the Tide’s fortune?

Next Up

Alabama returns to Tuscaloosa for its home opener against the Mercer Bears in what should be a tune up for the upcoming Florida game. Rat Poison served here.
