Ramit Tandon is the #2 ranked male squash player in India and is amongst the top 50 in the world.

Ramit started playing squash at the age of 6 and has had a fascinating expedition since then. Unlike some other professional athletes who end up putting all their eggs in one basket by giving up education and being 100% committed to their respective sports from the get-go, Ramit has taken subtle steps towards making his passion his profession.

After graduating high school, Ramit went to Columbia University in New York and worked in the hedge fund business following his graduation from Columbia. However, throughout his time in College and while working in the Finance industry, Ramit kept in touch with Squash, his primary passion, despite the demanding nature of his time in College and in Finance. In 2018, Ramit turned pro after deciding to part ways with the high-octane world of Finance and take up Squash on a full-time basis. Since this decision, he's risen rapidly through the ranks and even broke into the top 50 in the world very recently.

In this conversation, Ramit, using his own example as a case study, talked to me about subtle steps one can take to make one's passion one's profession. In addition to defining what, according to him, "sense of purpose" implies, he goes on to extensively explain how one can go about finding and then subsequently pursuing one's sense of purpose.

While I am nowhere close to being as accomplished as Ramit is, there are some parallels between his story and my voyage from Engineering at Georgia Tech to Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs in New York City to becoming an ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Presenter. During the course of the discussion, I relate my story as well and why, although I now earn a small fraction of how much I was earning at Goldman Sachs, I feel a lot more fulfilled on a day-to-day basis.

If you're someone who's confused and unsure about what he or she should be doing, I strongly suggest that you invest time listening to this episode from start to finish. If it doesn't give you all the answers that you're looking for, it'll certainly give you a sense of direction in your journey towards finding those answers. Happy listening!
