I always wonder why women in abusive situations don't run far and fast; this story does show some of the mindset, the feeling of being ashamed and feeling powerless, that leads to their staying put. I tried to raise my daughter to believe that her mom and I would always have her back, to get her out of a bad situation. I hope that she would be able to get out of trouble if needed.
