Ryan Singer is an absolute legend that’s been with Basecamp since the beginning. 17 years ago, Ryan started his working relationship with Jason Fried (CEO and Co-founder of Basecamp) and David Heinemeier-Hansson, (CTO and also the Co-founder of Basecamp - ANNNDD the founder of one of the world’s most popular web development/ programming frameworks, Ruby-On-Rails).

Back when it all started, it was just Jason, David, and Ryan in their web design firm. Now Basecamp has over 50 employees, across 32 different cities from around the world. Their headquarters are in Chicago, but everyone at Basecamp is free to live and work wherever they want. They are huge believers in remote work - they even wrote a book about it - called Remote. These guys are so freakin’ AMAZING, they also wrote the new york times best-selling book, ‘Rework’ - which is also our book club pick this month here at #GrowGetters.

Whatever the Basecamp guys touch, turns to gold. They were developing revolutionary web designs nearly 2 decades ago - and now they develop one of the most popular software apps for businesses. To date, 3.3 million people have signed up for Basecamp and they continue to build revolutionary tools that are simple, clear, easy to use, honest, and reliable for their customers.

Ryan has been working on all levels of the software stack, from UI design to back-end programming to strategy. Ryan’s curiosity and persistence to understand what people ACTUALLY need has allowed him to design features that have been used by millions of people all over the world.

As the head of strategy, Ryan is responsible for the design and build of all of Basecamps products - including their latest product, Hey - a ground-up reinvention of email, designed for how we all use email today.

He is dedicated to truly understanding what customers are trying to do - and finding solutions to make products fit them better.

Ryan is the co-host of the podcast, ‘Demand Thinking’, and the host of ‘Synthetic A Priori’. He is also the author of ‘Shape Up: Stop Running in Circles and Ship Work that Matters’ - another incredible Basecamp title.
